Pureweld XL Reveals it’s The longest Lasting Weldable TPE

Single-use TPE tubing is up to 2.5 times longer lasting over extended production in peristaltic applications

PureWeldâ XL tubing, from Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG), offers extended lifespan and steady flow consistency, overcoming the technical challenges associated with continuous bioprocessing. The results of a recent study demonstrate significantly longer peristaltic pump life and sustainable flow rate delivery when compared with competing TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) tubing.

Continuous processing has the potential to significantly increase the efficiency of biologics manufacture, reducing production costs and hence the price of pharmaceuticals. In order to achieve this, all single-use components must be able to maintain integrity for extended production cycles of up to potentially 90 days. Single-use peristaltic pump tubing must therefore not only deliver an extended pump life, but also maintain a consistent fluid transfer process flow rate throughout processing times while resisting dynamic wear.

In the recent study, carried out by WMFTG, PureWeld XL was compared with two industry recognised types of TPE tubing, testing pump performance against elevated discharge pressures, peristaltic life and flow stability. PureWeld XL showed a remarkable average lifetime of 293 hrs, compared to 119 hrs and 10 hrs for its two competitors. It also maintained a constant flow throughout its lifespan whilst both other tubing types reduced dramatically after only a few hours. A full breakdown of the test parameters and results can be viewed here.

Dr. Chris Palmer, Tubing Product Manager at WMFTG, commented “This recent study confirms the need for drug manufacturers to consider the lifespan and quality of all components when designing a continuous bioprocessing system. Watson-Marlow is always seeking to improve its offerings to satisfy future customer requirements across multiple industries, including biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The growing adoption of single-use technologies in bioprocessing has propelled tubing from a minor to a major component of the manufacturing process, and the results of these tests demonstrate the benefits of choosing PureWeld XL tubing for the production of new medicines.”
