PowerFlex 6000 Drives Bring Sensorless Vector Control to More Applications

Rockwell Automation medium voltage drives now provide constant torque capabilities for 0-680-amp applications, from 2.3-11 kV

MILWAUKEE, May 14, 2018 — Heavy-industry operators can now use the Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 6000 medium voltage drives to meet a broader range of application requirements and lower their total system costs. Rockwell Automation has enhanced the drives to offer sensorless vector control (SVC) for 0-200-amp applications, additional voltage ratings and a standard-efficiency transformer option for the Asia-Pacific market. With a previous launch for 200-680-amp applications in 2017, SVC is now available for 0-680 amps and 2.3-11 kV voltage ratings.

“Heavy-industry users need to complete projects with less capital, and this requires a reliable, high-performing drive that can reduce costs across its lifespan,” said Brad Bugiardini, product manager for medium voltage drives, Rockwell Automation. “The new, enhanced control and capabilities of the PowerFlex 6000 drives can simplify the user experience while lowering the total cost of ownership.”

The SVC addition brings heavy-duty ratings to PowerFlex 6000 drives in the 0-200-amp range, already available for the 200-amp and above range. It provides constant torque capability without the need for an encoder, which can help lower the total cost of ownership for applications such as slurry pumps and reciprocating compressors.

Two new voltage ratings are also now available for the 0-680-amp drive range. The first is 6.9kV, most commonly found in Canada, and the second is 11 kV, most commonly found in Australia and Europe.

In addition, a standard-efficiency transformer option is now available for the Asia-Pacific market, which also helps to lower the total cost of ownership for the drive.
