Pregis Intros New Surface Protection Film for Fingerprint-Resistant Appliance Finishes, Other Easily-Damaged Surfaces

Deerfield, Ill., July 10, 2018—Pregis LLC, a leading manufacturer of innovative protective packaging materials, is introducing a cost-effective, temporary surface protection film specifically-designed for new generation, fingerprint-resistant or specialty-coated products.

Pregis PolyMask 23107C is ideal for plastic and painted metal surfaces, with light matte, high gloss or brushed finishes. Coated onto linear low-density polyethylene film, the proprietary adhesive offers the characteristics of both emulsion-based acrylic and solvent-based rubber chemistry. The end result is a material with smooth initial tack, combined with excellent cohesive strength to resist micro-transfer to your substrate.

In addition to fingerprint-resistant surfaces, Pregis PolyMask 23107C is also ideal for other finishes that show damages or imperfections easily. Increasingly, manufacturers are using specialty coatings to create visual aesthetics (gloss, tint or color), protect the surface, or provide benefits (anti-glare). Conversely, some sensitive surfaces have simply been finished with a soft, smooth glossy paint in a dark color.

“We have spent years developing and testing this product in order to provide a cost-effective, leading edge solution for manufacturers looking to push surface coating boundaries. With an increasing number of appliance manufacturers offering fingerprint-resistant finishes plus automotive, building material and other companies marketing products with specialty coatings, there was a need to create a temporary film that would deliver desired protection attributes,” explains Steve Thompson, director of product applications, Pregis PolyMask.

During development, PolyMask 23107C was subjected to a wide range of environmental testing. Even after months of heat aging, the proprietary, water-based adhesive chemistry could be removed easily, without leaving residue.

“It is also an ideal alternative for rubber-based solvent protective films which are frequently produced in other countries. Manufactured in the United States, PolyMask 23107C comes with a 9 day lead time, versus the minimum four-to-five week lead time typically quoted by overseas producers. This capability helps manufactures reduce inventory and improve speed-to-market,” Thompson said.

PolyMask 23107C is available in a variety of widths and thicknesses to address specific application requirements.
