Nitretex Pioneers New Nitriding Treatment with “FerriLOK™�

Nitretex would like to formally introduce Liquid Salt Bath Nitriding with subsequent FerriLOK™. We are excited to announce that we are the pioneers for a new innovation to the salt bath nitriding process (QPQ), which greatly improves the cosmetic appearance of nitrided components as well as gives astronomical corrosion resistance; up to 10X more corrosion protection than your standard QPQ process.

Liquid salt bath nitriding is a thermochemical process which has been applied in a wide range of industries throughout the world for many decades. It increases the surface hardness to enhance wear, anti-galling, and lowers the coefficient of friction as well as improves the fatigue strength. Corrosion resistance is also increased with salt bath nitriding and gives an appealing black finish. With the subsequent FerriLOK™, you are maintaining these base properties of the liquid salt bath nitriding and gaining even further corrosion resistance and a deeper, more uniform black finish.

The FerriLOK™ process is a 3-stage post nitride treatment performed in-house at Nitretex. This process is comprised of a proprietary blend of alkaline polishing compounds, an activation quench, and a final oxidative preventative. The first step effectively removes the processing ‘smut’ residue after nitriding and creates a smooth surface with open pores to prep for the second stage. The second step impregnates and seals the surface grains, which halts oxidation and prevents it from forming. The third and final oxidative preventative is designed to seal the surface and dramatically improve salt spray and humidity resistance on nitride ferrous substrates. When using the FerriLOK™ process in conjunction with salt bath nitriding, we are effectively creating a more cosmetically appealing, super hard, corrosion-resistant surface that exceeds 600 hours in salt spray solution—all while maintaining the traditional properties already obtained with salt bath nitriding.
