New IMCO M525 End Mill, High-Efficiency Machining Form Dynamic Duo in Titanium, Stainless Steel

Higher feed rates in nasty-hard metals; test results in new enDURO® catalog

(Perrysburg, OH) - The nastiest metals on earth have met their match with the new enDURO® M525 end mills, introduced this month with a 20-page catalog from IMCO Carbide Tool.

Bred for higher feed rates in titanium and stainless steel, the M525 and its 5-flute variations have been tested in machine shops in both metals with very impressive results, said Perry Osburn, president of IMCO.

"In every case, users were shocked at the high feed rates and longer tool life with our M525s," Osburn said. "They're very, very excited about these tools."

Testing of the enDURO M525s produced up to 570% longer tool life and a 40% decrease in cycle time. Runs with heat-treated 15-5 stainless and titanium resulted in no warping, no scrap and extended tool life even while running at higher feed rates and speeds.

enDURO M525s are designed to maximize productivity in nasty-hard metals, especially with new high-efficiency machining techniques. With predictions of a big jump in titanium and stainless steel machining work, IMCO began working on the M525s a few years ago.

"We tweaked the design for over a year to get the cutting geometries exactly right with harmonics that could overcome the eccentricities of machining in titanium and stainless steel," Osburn said. "We worked with a couple of our West Coast representatives and highly respected machine shops that cut in those metals. It was an extremely valuable process."

"We only introduce a tool when we're sure there are real, reliable benefits for our customers," Osburn said. "The IMCO M525 delivers. It helps them get the work out the door sooner and take on more work. And we've just started."

IMCO's enDURO M525s are part of the company's more aggressive second generation of enDURO high-performance end mills. IMCO's research to develop further enDURO designs is ongoing.

IMCO's enDURO 5-flute catalog includes all tool variations available, speeds and feeds and material recommendations, as well as profiles and test results of machine shops where enDURO M525 tools were tested.
