New Focused Spot Accessory Allows Direct Imaging of Lasers at Focus

Logan, UT (October 9, 2007) - Ophir-Spiricon Inc. announces a new accessory for use with its Laser Beam Analyzer profiler software that enables direct measurement of many laser beams at and near the focus. The accessory is retrofittable to most existing Ophir-Spiricon systems. The Company's Laser Beam Analysis software remains as the only ISO compliant system for beam width measurements.

Focused laser Beam Width Measurements in Real Time

Ophir-Spiricon engineers have produced a device that attaches to the front of all of the existing "C" mount CCD cameras, and attenuates the beam so that when the focused spot reaches the focal plane of the camera, it is attenuated enough that the energy density can be successfully imaged. The beam profile and quantitative ISO-compliant calculations can then be displayed in real time on the users' computer display.

Accurate

"Ophir-Spiricon has a patented method of determining the true background that preserves both the positive and negative signal, reports Kenneth Ferree, VP Sales & Marketing. This contributes greatly to beam width measurement accuracy, especially when the beam is focused and covers only a small number of pixels."

Easy to Use

The accessory can be set up and used in a few minutes. Customers have always wanted to measure the laser beam at the workpiece, and now it is possible for a wide variety of laser applications. At present, the minimum beam width that can be measured is about 25 µm, and we are working on an additional accessory that can easily image a beam at only 10 µm, with sub-micron resolution.

About Ophir-Spiricon Inc.

Ophir-Spiricon Inc., the world leader in laser beam profile instruments for the past 30 years, produced the first linear pyroelectric array for laser beam diagnostics in 1978. The Pyrocam III pyroelectric matrix array camera is the industry standard for measuring CO2 and other IR and far IR lasers from 1¬m to more than 1,000¬m. Spiricon's beam analysis algorithms revolutionized the accuracy of CCD camera measurement of visible and near IR lasers, using the patented UltracalTM method of baseline setting. Other leading edge products from Spiricon measure beam focusability, wavefront phase, telecom device characteristics, and industrial laser reliability.

Ophir-Spiricon is part of the Ophir Laser Measurement Group headquartered in Jerusalem, Israel. The Ophir Laser Measurement Group manufactures, calibrates and sells a complete line of instruments for laser power meters, laser energy meters, laser beam analyzer instrumentation, laser measurement tools and spectral analysis instruments.
