New England Contract Manufacturer Realizes Increased Value with Implementation of SPI from ASC International

MEDINA, MINNESOTA - ASC International announces that Distron Corporation, based in Attleboro Falls, MA, has successfully implemented a true 3D inline SPI system. This investment demonstrates Distron's long-term commitment to high-quality products.

Distron's process includes 2D X-ray of the solder paste in the screen print process as well as 3D SPI after screen printing.  Distron utilizes the new SPI system as a sample measurement system to help validate and monitor how well the company's screen printing machine is performing on a sample basis of the most critical components within the four quadrants and the center of the board assembly. The company looks for the finer pitch areas in each of the quadrants and performs SPC on these areas to ensure that the process stays within its control limits.

"I have been working with the folks from ASC for more than five years, and purchased my first two systems from them when I worked at Federal Electronics in Cranston, RI," said Roger A. Lamarre Jr., Technical Liaison at Distron. "Now, working for Distron Corporation, I had the chance to work with Steve Arneson and his crew at ASC again."

Distron has realized many benefits since the implementation of SPI, some of which include issues with BGAs detected with 2D X-ray. After analyzing its BGA results, the company found that the volume of paste being put down was higher at different times during the day. Therefore, a fine tune of the SPI program to catch this volume increase allowed the company to detect these defects upstream and prevent them from occurring.

With the company's expanded capabilities, Distron will continue to focus on delivering high-precision, high-quality products. For more information about Distron Corporation, call 508.695.8786 or email sales@distron.com.
