New Electrolyte Refill Kits for Emerson's PERpH-X pH Sensor Family Expand Application Flexibility

IRVINE, Calif., July 31, 2007 - Emerson Process Management today announced new reference electrolyte refill kits that expand application flexibility of the Rosemount Analytical PERpH-X(TM) sensor family for a broad range of applications. The PERpH-X sensor family is customized for different processes by using different reference electrolytes. Six different refill solution kits are available: the high temperature kit; the bio-film-resistant kit; the poisoning-resistant kit; the oil-resistant kit; the scaling-resistant kit; and the metals-resistant kit. Each kit uses a specific chemistry formulated to extend the life of the reference electrode in its targeted application.

The Rosemount Analytical PERpH-X high-performance pH sensor from Emerson Process Management incorporates several innovations for prolonged sensor life in difficult processes. High temperatures, fouling, coating and poisoning conditions can deteriorate the glass pH sensing membrane, deplete the reference electrolyte, and cause thermal stress on all sensor components, damaging or incapacitating traditional sensors. The PERpH-X sensors resist these destructive conditions and provide a longer lifespan, reducing the total cost of ownership and avoiding frequent sensor replacement. Each of the six reference electrolyte kits offers a solution to a common application challenge.

These industrial process applications are ideally suited for the new reference electrolyte kits:

Original solution included with sensor: High temperatures to 145 C
Bio-film-resistant kit: Municipal wastewater; plant outfalls to environmental water
Poisoning-resistant kit: Kraft paper mills; de-sulfurization processes
Oil-resistant kit: Hydro de-sulfurization processes; poultry processing
Scaling-resistant kit: Limestone scrubbers; lime slaking in sugar processing
Metals-resistant kit: Metal plating and metal recovery processes

"The complete PERpH-X family of pH sensors has been built to meet plant operations demands for extended sensor life, reduced maintenance and sensor replacement with lower overall cost of ownership, even in extremely difficult processing applications," said John Wright, vice president of marketing, Rosemount Analytical Liquid Division of Emerson Process Management. "These new reference electrolyte refill solutions further meet those demands by extending sensor life and allowing customers to employ one sensor to a broad range of applications. This is another example of Emerson's innovation in industrial processing analytical technologies."

In addition to the reference electrolyte refill kits, the PERpH-X family of sensors incorporates several other features for long life and application flexibility. The ACCUGLASS(TM) pH bulb enables the sensors to resist cracking and have near theoretical response even at extreme pH values. The GPHT glass formulation resists glass matrix breakdown in hot processes, providing exceptional thermal stability to the pH glass membrane. A slotted tip surrounds the glass bulb for protection against direct impact from process hazards, and can be rotated 90 degrees for self-cleaning in the process flow. All PERpH-X sensors contain an enhanced double junction reference for extreme applications. The outer gel-based reference retains viscosity, resisting the pumping actions of temperature and pressure. Preventative maintenance of the outer reference can extend pH sensor life considerably by preventing depletion of the inner reference electrolyte. Reference flow into the process stream is controlled using a porous Teflon junction that can be replaced if fouled or plugged. The specially designed junction is chemically resistant and has a large surface area to maintain a steady reference signal in dirty or oily applications.

The reference electrolyte refill kits are available for order September 2007.
