New Eclipse Plugin From Krugle Offers Code Search for Enterprise Developers

Enterprise users can now access Krugle code search within Eclipse IDE

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 6 // -- EclipseCon -- Krugle, Inc., the code search engine for developers, today announced the beta release of Krugle Eclipse, a new code search plugin for Eclipse, the world's most popular open source development platform. Krugle Eclipse enables enterprise developers to easily search and browse open source code from Krugle's comprehensive index, including code from such popular resources as SourceForge, the Yahoo! Developer Network, and Microsoft's CodePlex.

Krugle Eclipse provides fully integrated code search functionality for the Eclipse IDE (integrated development environment) and offers instant access to a vast library of open source code in over 35 languages, including Java, C/C++, Ruby, Perl, and Python. Users can conduct advanced queries, explore associated code files, and browse key contextual information such as licensing restrictions and bug reports without having to manually locate, download, and extract relevant code from project archives. By using Krugle Eclipse to quickly reference and reuse popular open source code, enterprise users will be able to save time and improve the quality of their code without any modifications to their development process.

"Over our twenty-year history of helping developers be more productive, we've seen the challenges facing developers evolve," said Karl Ewald of CodeGear, a leader in developer tools.

"With the explosion of open source projects and frameworks, developers are encountering a growing number of new, unfamiliar code bases. They are being asked to incorporate these in a single application. At the same time, they have unprecedented access to the internals of the frameworks and other developers' work within the same frameworks. Krugle Eclipse gives developers a powerful, simple way to search through this vast information and find relevant source code and examples -- directly from the IDE," said Ewald.

"The best productivity tool a developer has is pre-existing code," said Ken Krugler, Co-Founder and CTO of Krugle, "and this plugin will help enterprise users take advantage of that by allowing them to integrate our market-leading code search functionality right into their Eclipse workspace. Whether they're looking to reuse open source components, use code examples as a reference, or access important documentation and metadata, Krugle Eclipse will help them to do it faster than ever before."

"One of the biggest advantages of the Eclipse development platform is its lightweight plugin framework, and Krugle's new code search plugin leverages this extensibility to create a valuable new tool for Eclipse developers," said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation. "Providing developers with new search capabilities integrated directly with their IDE is a great addition to the Eclipse community."

The beta version of Krugle Eclipse is compatible with Eclipse 3.2 and higher and is available for free download at http://corp.krugle.com/eclipse-beta.

About Krugle, Inc.

Krugle, the code search engine for developers, was founded in 2005 around the idea of contextual search. Krugle's code search engine makes it easy for developers to find the code they need plus the related technical and licensing information to evaluate and use that code. Krugle lets developers save their search information, share it, and get comments and feedback on code. These essential development processes of searching, evaluating and communicating are directly aimed at developers' needs.

Krugle crawls, parses and indexes code found in public and partner repositories. Search results include contextual information from projects, technical web pages, as well as resources such as Safari Books Online. The ability to interactively search, browse and explore code in a meaningful context provides more accurate results and reduces the time required to make good code decisions.
