RSLogix DeviceNet Tag Generator automates configuration and setup steps
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, May 15, 2006 - Rockwell Automation has introduced a new feature to its Rockwell Software RSLogix programming environment that eliminates manual configuration typically associated with adding DeviceNet products to a Logix-based control system. This free configuration tool automatically defines data tags, helping reduce the amount of programming time required.
"Previously, users needed to reference devices' manuals to understand the meaning of DeviceNet data array tables," said Fabio Malaspina, product marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. "Now, with the RSLogix 5000 DeviceNet Tag Generator, plant engineers are prompted through a series of steps to more quickly select the right scanner and configure each device. Using the built-in automation interface, the tool defines and creates structures, tags, User-defined Data Tags (UDT) and logic in the configuration software."
"This tool helps Logix software users save a significant amount of time," said Dave Heller, product marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. "The DeviceNet Tag Generator also automatically helps provide status and diagnostic information for DeviceNet products, improving the ability to make fast and accurate decisions on the factory floor."
The DeviceNet network is based on the same Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) technology available in ControlNet and EtherNet/IP networks. These networks are a critical element in the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture, which addresses a full range of automation and information needs in manufacturing, including sequential, motion, process, drive and safety applications, and seamless enterprise-wide integration.
The RSLogix 5000 DeviceNet Tag Generator supports the Rockwell Automation Logix Programmable Automation Controllers (Logix PAC) versions 12 and higher and DeviceNet scanners, and is currently included with newly released RSNetWorx for DeviceNet v7.00.00.
