New CEL MeshWorks(TM) Wireless Platform Revolutionizes IoT Design and Development

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — California Eastern Laboratories (CEL) announces the field trial release of its new MeshWorks™ Wireless Software Platform, a true turnkey solution enabling fast development and deployment of wireless sensors and control networks within the industrial, building automation, connected home, and lighting markets. It allows users to easily add wireless to their network and get it up and running to the cloud within hours.

MeshWorks™Â unites several tools to create and simplify a complete mesh network design as part the Internet of Things (IoT).  It has a powerful Graphical User Interface (GUI) equipped with a simple python script generator to help create complete scripts that can be loaded directly onto end devices. No experience is needed in writing C code or being fluent in complex mesh networking protocols like ZigBee or Z-Wave.

The complete platform consists of three key components:  A wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) which is powered by CEL's MeshConnect™ 2.4GHz 802.15.4 modules, a GUI-driven programming interface driven by CEL's MeshWorks™ software suite, and cloud access which is provided by Exosite's new OpenTether™ (OT) cellular backhaul offering.  A wired backhaul option is also available utilizing CEL's new MeshConnect™ Ethernet Gateway.  Both gateway alternatives are offered as options within the MeshWorks™ development kit. MeshWorks™ also incorporates an optional Real-Time Locating Service (RTLS) technology from Buzby Works which can be implemented as supplemental code running on top of the MeshWorks™ firmware.

MeshWorks™ makes previously complex mesh networking systems incredibly fast and easy to implement for anyone with basic python scripting skills. It is designed to work with virtually any type of sensor in any application that requires M2M (Machine to Machine) communications.

The MeshWorks™Advantages

The MeshWorks™ platform is built on top of the reliable EmberZNet Pro stack from Silicon Labs. EmberZNet Pro is a robust mesh networking stack that has been deployed in millions of residential and commercial installations today.

MeshWorks™ is designed to circumvent the complexities associated with mesh network programming, accessing the cloud, and rapid prototyping.  Everything is provided within the platform to enable a robust, turnkey mesh networking solution.  To help facilitate fast proof-of-concept prototyping, the MeshWorks™ development kit includes two extremely versatile OpenTether Sensor Nodes.  Each node combines 10 sensor functions, including temperature and humidity sensing, proximity detection, light sensing, open/close detection, asset movement monitoring, rotation detection, drop/shock detection, and compass orientation.  The Sensor Node also includes an I/O sensor expansion port, allowing users to connect virtually any generic sensor type to the wireless network via its I2C, analog, or digital I/O.

The CEL Advantages

CEL continues to be a leader in bringing cutting edge wireless technology to market in a way that facilitates fast and easy deployments in real world applications. CEL's 55+ years of RF design experience includes hardware, software and sub-system development that spans across a wide range of applications. CEL's applications support team provides design services and general support to accelerate project development and reduce overall time-to-market.

Availability

CEL's MeshWorks platform is currently undergoing field trials with select customers. The software suite is included within CEL's MeshWorks development kits (part numbers ZMW-KIT-ETH-1 or ZMW-KIT-CELL-1). Each kit provides 2 OpenTether Sensor Nodes with their respective gateway (Ethernet or Cellular).  General availability is planned for the fourth quarter of 2014.
