Multi-Ring Protocol Enhances Network Availability



New Platform Software Release from Hirschmann

Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH (Neckartenzlingen, Germany) has released version 5.0 of its Platform Software, providing important new functions for the company's Ethernet switching and routing products.

The new release enables customers to connect multiple rings to a primary ring. This permits higher availability of networks by forming so-called sub-rings. With version 5.0 of Hirschmann's Platform Software, the Multi-Ring protocol is available in the RSR and MACH1000 product families.

Another new feature in the latest software update is that it accelerates boot-up times. In addition, the HIPER-Ring and RSTP protocols have been optimized, with version 5.0 now also allowing for various possible protocol combinations. Moreover, in combination with the new MICE PTP modules, the latest Platform Software release supports the new technology of the Precision Time Protocol Version 2.
