Norman Network Security Appliance Upgraded for Higher Performance and Value

Norman Network Protection Delivers Superior Malware Protection to Servers & Clients

FAIRFAX, Va., --Norman ASA announced today general availability of the new release of its cost-effective Norman Network Protection (NNP) antimalware appliance, proven in independent lab tests to significantly improve security in business, government and manufacturing networks.

Highlights for Norman Network Protection Version 4.0 include:

-- Built on a 64-bit Linux platform for superior performance

-- Supports up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet

-- High availability failover solution for continuous service

-- URL custom content blocking

-- Delivers enhanced Windows file-sharing support

NNP 4.0 is an easy-to-deploy, easy-to-use antimalware appliance which can be installed at the network gateway, or placed between network nodes to block insider threats from compromised laptops, memory sticks and other mobile devices. Strengthened by Norman's award-winning SandBox® technology, NNP delivers proactive, real-time protection for today's business, government and manufacturing networks and eliminates threats without affecting productivity.

The Norman appliance is implemented in enterprise and manufacturing networks and is cost effective from small and medium businesses and branch offices up to the most complex corporate and government networks.

The ultrafast NNP appliance is built on a 64-bit platform and supports up to 10 gigabit Ethernet networks, providing a real-time, front-end protection solution for the entire LAN and production environment. Multiple protocols are scanned to stop malicious programs, keeping the network clean and allowing safe traffic to pass through quickly and efficiently. NNP combines signature-based security with SandBox and DNA Matching technology to proactively stop malware.

Norman Network Protection includes Norman Endpoint Manager, a security operations center, which supports an unlimited number of appliances in the network. Additionally, enhancements in protocol support enable filtering of BitTorrent, the global standard for delivering files over the Internet and MSN messenger.

The NNP Appliance delivers high-performance inbound and outbound real-time scans of CIFS and SMB Microsoft Windows protocols and HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, RPC, TFTP and IRC.

In addition, the Norman antimalware appliance scans and detects files associated with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 file sharing protocol, SMB2. Communication between computers and Microsoft Sharepoint can be detected and scanned, protecting your Sharepoint servers from being infected with malware.

"Customers tell us the versatile Norman Network Protection can cost-effectively protect data from malware attacks just about anywhere in network," said Audun Lodemel, vice president, Marketing and Business Development. "We are seeing applications in remote retail locations, complex manufacturing sites, large enterprises and small businesses."

In 2010 testing with NSS Labs, Inc., NNP improved network security up to 38% when used in conjunction with a range of leading endpoint protection solutions. The appliance identifies malware threats endpoint software often fails to detect. To learn more about the NSS Labs test, go to http://www.nsslabs.com/anti-malware/normannp.
