Fujitsu Network Scanner fi-6010N Improves Business Efficiency

One-stop scanning solution enhances communication

London, 17. October 2008 - Fujitsu Europe Limited has today announced the launch of its newest network scanner edition - the network scanner fi-6010N. Its mission: to improve business efficiency and communication in today's multi-location, global business environments. Its one-stop document information capture into productive Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems increases business collaboration, document security and lowers corporate communication expenses.

Connecting people
Today's enterprises need simple solutions with instant access to strategic information, including every document a business generates. It requires proficient imaging devices to migrate paper-based information into productive electronic processes. Not only is Fujitsu´s network scanner fi-6010N designed to handle typical office communication tasks such as scanning paper documents into electronic files, repositories, workflows or archives and sending them to colleagues via email, fax, shared folder storage or to a printer for creating multiple paper copies, but also to be seamlessly integrated into leading Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems by making use of the network scanner fi-6010N unique software development kit (SDK). The new network scanner can be applied in medical fields, legal and real estate offices, schools, logistic centres, government branches and all businesses looking for easy document sharing.

Increased security and language support
The network scanner fi-6010N supports encrypted file transfers and encrypted data authentication and enables the creation of secure, searchable PDF files through password protection. It optionally ensures that scanned document files can be opened only by intended recipients. In addition, the new colour duplex network scanner supports 10 local language panel layouts, including UK and US English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. Matching keyboard cover sheets are provided to match the diverse operating system languages.

Centralised administration and ISV support
A centralised administrative function permits administrators to install settings into multiple network scanner fi-6010N devices from one location. This includes individual user environmental settings, operating conditions and add-in software settings as well as monitoring individual units and the operating status over the network. Additionally, Fujitsu offers a special software development kit (SDK) to Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to assist in the development of scanning and information capture applications that allow for image display, keyboard input, indexing, system linkage, and automatic field population, for example.

Innovative Features
The Fujitsu network scanner fi-6010N comes equipped with one of the largest touch-screen displays in its class -- 8.4 inch XGA (1024 x 768 pixels), including 24 bit TFT colour monitor for easy viewing and verification of scanned images. The scanner is supported by a zoom/rotate image functionality. The network scanner´s integrated keyboard is ergonomically placed underneath the monitor for the operator's easy use and flips up for access to the document exit tray.

The network scanner fi-6010N simplex-duplex network scanner scans in colour, greyscale and monochrome at speeds of up to 25 ppm / 50 ipm (A4 at 200 dpi), offers true 600 dpi optical resolution, a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), and dual-CCD scanning sensors to consistently capture finest details of images.

Fujitsu´s new network scanner is also equipped with ultrasonic double-feed detection, supports document scanning from A8 to A3 (using an A3 carrier sheet), business card formats as well as long document scanning of up to 863 millimetres. Yet, with a compact footprint of only 315 x 415 x 281mm (WxDxH), the scanner fits easily into limited-size environments, including front and back office locations. Other features include automatic image quality adjustments, colour detection, image orientation, paper de-skew, paper size detection and blank page detection and removal.

Easy to install, easy to use
The network scanner fi-6010N is one of the quickest, easiest ways for an organisation to scan and exchange documents. In the past, businesses required centralised printers, copying machines, facsimiles and storage disks to enable others in the company to share documents and collaborate on projects. With the new network scanner, network document sharing, emailing and faxing becomes much easier. Simply plug-in the power and Ethernet cable, direct the scanner to the network and email server and it is ready to operate. Then just log into the system, type in the destination using the built-in keyboard, and press the scan icon on the touch-screen display. The documents will then be easily accessible and available to the rest of the organisation within seconds as the scanner distributes documents directly to a network folder, email account, printer or fax device. The network scanner is self-contained, using the existing mail system address book and network security. There is no need for a network adapter, PC or additional software.

"Fujitsu has developed unmatched competencies in providing scanning peripherals that capture documents in enterprise and office environments to a connected workstation and then allow for post processing into archives, workflows or large scale ECM systems. With this proficiency, the network scanner fi-6010N is much more than just a network device which allows for communication and distribution of paper based information over the network," said Klaus Schulz, Manager, Product Marketing EMEA. "The network scanner fi-6010N is first and foremost the genuine entry point for scattered, yet highly valuable and business critical paper based information into any ECM system and minimizes the cost of business information."

Price and Availability
The Fujitsu network scanner fi-6010N will be available in the EMEA regions (Europe/Middle East/Africa) by the end of October 2008 for a recommended retail price of 3,000 plus VAT.
