Procera Networks' New OptimIP Network Protector Helps Businesses Enforce Control Over Internal Networks

Stop Enabling Unproductive Employees, Eliminate Network Misuse and Bandwidth Abuse From Personal Applications, and Ensure Mission-Critical Applications Perform at Maximum Efficiency

CAMPBELL, Calif., Feb. 10 - Procera(R) Networks, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: PRNW), a pioneering developer of optimized network security and compliance systems, announced the new release of its OptimIP(TM) Network Protector, the first intelligent network appliance that enables businesses and IT groups to enforce tight control over internal network usage. The OptimIP Network Protector restricts the misuse of personal applications, controls network bandwidth abuse, and ensures that mission-critical applications, such as VoIP, Citrix, database and ERP systems, execute consistently and reliably with highest possible performance.

"It's your corporate network, take it back," said Gary J. Johnson, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Procera Networks. "Our new OptimIP Network Protector is a non-intrusive 'inside enforcer' that empowers businesses to regain control over how their employees are using network resources while ensuring that essential business applications work consistently, securely and reliably. The network should be viewed as a corporate intellectual asset. Allowing employees open and unfettered access to the Web is not only a potential legal liability and security risk, but also results in poor performance for other business-critical applications."

The Procera OptimIP Network Protector is a non-intrusive, wire-speed network overlay appliance for internal network security and application optimization that enables businesses to:
-- Enforce business-driven policies for selective access to networks and applications
-- Weed out and eliminate network misuse and bandwidth abuse
-- Rate limit and/or block personal applications
-- Implement selective surveillance of potential internal fraud or other breaches of corporate policies
-- Lockdown systems to control the spread of network-borne attacks, and
-- Accelerate and optimize the performance of business-critical applications.

"Procera's OptimIP Network Protector appliance enables us to block rogue traffic, such as music downloads, as well as any malicious traffic, ensures secure wireless access and supercharges our existing 10/100 Ethernet network for optimum-quality VoIP," said Cindy Lucas, director of technology coordination for Cleveland Independent School District. "The OptimIP appliance works with our existing network infrastructure and ensures adequate performance levels for our key applications across our extended LAN/WAN environment. It has enabled us to regain control over our network and deliver a better experience to our students, faculty and administrators, without an expensive network overhaul or additional bandwidth that we simply could not afford."

Network misuse has become pervasive in many business environments, leading to lost productivity and introducing the potential for legal liability. A personal application blocker and/or rate limiter for instant messenger, Webmail and peer-to-peer applications, the OptimIP Network Protector enables internal security, usage control and port lockdown with granular control down to any subnet, VLAN, or specific IP and MAC address of any server or personal computer on the network. The OptimIP Network Protector also integrates high-performance network optimization capabilities to ensure the right quality of service and most efficient use of bandwidth for each application using existing network topologies and equipment.

"The combination of incomplete or non-existent security policy enforcement at the application level and inconsistent or unreliable application performance increases the cost of network operations," said Dr. Anil Sahai, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Procera Networks. "Corporations typically address these problems by continuing to overprovision network bandwidth to meet usage demands and reduce network latency. However, a bandwidth-driven strategy can provide only short-term relief. Uncontrolled network misuse and abuse and poorly provisioned use of bandwidth by network-sensitive applications, such as VoIP and Citrix, as well as rogue applications quickly consume and overwhelm the newly added capacity. Unfortunately, most organizations are largely unaware that they have misuse, abuse, latency and congestion problems running rampant within their networks, which if eliminated, would significantly reduce bandwidth requirements and improve employee productivity."

Procera's new OptimIP Network Protector can process up to 24 Gbps of sustained throughput at network speeds without introducing latency and provide guaranteed service levels for VoIP, streaming media and business-critical applications, such as ERP/MRP, database and other transaction-intensive applications -- all using existing bandwidth, LAN topologies and network equipment.

Procera's OptimIP Network Protector provides LAN/WAN bandwidth management through rate limiting with granular flow control down to 64 Kbit increments, eight priority queues and managed bandwidth for latency- and congestion-sensitive applications, quality of service (QoS) compatible with 802.1p, TOS, and DiffServ QoS topologies, and per-port and per-flow expert policy control -- all easily configurable from a graphical dashboard.
