Tektronix Enhances Network Monitoring System to Ensure Service Quality in UMA Networks

Unified Assurance® Offers Core-to-Access Visibility to Help Operators Effectively Launch UMA Networks

RICHARDSON, Texas, May 20 - Tektronix Communications, a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, today announced it has enhanced its network assurance monitoring system to include Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) support. The addition of UMA support to the Unified Assurance solution for mobile networks enables end-to-end monitoring of voice and data sessions across fixed and mobile networks with a single platform.

UMA technology allows GSM/GPRS operators to add Wi-Fi as a fixed access technology to their network, allowing seamless roaming and handover between local area networks and wide area networks using a dual-mode mobile phone. With multiple networks and technologies involved, maintaining the quality of a UMA session is not an easy task.

With Tektronix' Unified Assurance UMA solution, service providers have a comprehensive view of voice and data service performance from access to core, including handovers between UMA and GSM/GPRS networks. With this end-to-end visibility, operators can manage the performance of their UMA networks and the quality of their end users' experience as they roam seamlessly between cellular, public and private networks.

The Tektronix UMA offering is fully integrated with the existing GeoProbe and Advanced Performance Monitoring(TM) (APM) applications and features. All are part of Tektronix' industry-leading Unified Assurance(TM) suite ofapplications for management of next generation converged networks.

The GeoProbe UMA monitoring solution provides a complete set of solutions for monitoring 2G/2.5G/3G mobile networks from access to core, giving service providers real-time, end-to-end visibility into their customers' service experience. The solution's m ulti protocol call trace provides end-to-end views for troubleshooting complex call scenarios such as IRAT handover. Proactive, customer-centric call tracing provides real-time tracing capabilities and historical trace recall.

APM's UMA Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) enable operators to track voice and data service performance by access point, media access control and UMA network controller. APM's analysis of historical KPIs and statistics enable service providers to identify customer QoS degradation before problems result in customer trouble reports.

"Tektronix partners with its customers to provide solutions that enable them to deploy, troubleshoot, manage and optimize new technologies such as UMA to maintain competitiveness," said Mark Driedger, Vice President and General Manager, Network Management, Tektronix Communications. "We are enthusiastic about being on the cutting-edge of this new technology, providing an offering that will enable leading companies to seamlessly deliver new innovations in mobile communications."
