Force10 Networks to Showcase Network Automation Capabilities at Interop New York 2010

Attendees will see how Open Automation Framework can lower operational costs and increase network availability through network automation

SAN JOSE, Calif., -- Force10 Networks, Inc., a global technology leader that data center, service provider and enterprise customers rely on when the network is their business, today announced it will showcase its Open Automation Framework at Interop New York 2010 from October 20-22 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. At booth #417, Force10 will feature a demo educating attendees as to how Force10's Open Automation Framework provides a more flexible, available and manageable network infrastructure by automating network functions in virtual data center environments. Attendees also will have the opportunity to learn how these enhanced network installation, configuration and monitoring tools help ease management and contribute to lower overall operating expenses.

"Deploying server virtualization technology has significantly optimized today's data centers by reducing the overall number of physical servers that need to be purchased, managed and cooled. However, as data center managers also are looking to virtualize their networks, they are finding that existing management tools are not sufficient," says Steve Garrison, vice president of marketing, Force10 Networks. "Force10's Open Automation Framework represents a quantum leap forward by extending virtualization to the data center network switching fabric and enabling these managers to realize greater performance, availability and flexibility while offering architectural freedom from vendor lock-in."

The Open Automation Framework includes a suite of inter-related network management tools designed to provide a data center network with greater flexibility, uptime and enhanced cost-effective management. The Framework contains:

JumpStart(TM) - Enables customers to quickly deploy Force10 network switches using standardized configurations

SmartScripts(TM) - Improves network monitoring and management by enabling customers to run custom scripts on Force10 switches

HyperLink(TM) - Facilitates communications between virtualization management frameworks and Force10 switches

SwitchLink(TM) - Facilitates communications between system management tools and Force10 switches

The Open Automation Framework is supported in the most recently introduced Force10 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switches, including the top-of-rack S55 access switch, which also will be on display. Ideally deployed for GbE server aggregation feeding into a 10 GbE data center core, the compact, high density S55 switch provides 48 GbE access ports and up to four optional 10 GbE uplinks in just 1-RU. Force10 Executive to Discuss Next-Generation Data Center at Interop New York 2010

On October 20, from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m., Steve Garrison will participate in an Interop panel discussion, titled "Designing the Next Generation Data Center." Attendees can expect to gain insight into the pros and cons of FCoE vs. iSCSI; the viability of separating the LAN switch's control and the data planes; the pros and cons of virtual switching and multi-chassis LAGs; the need for services such as QoS or security; and the alignment of each application VM with its own virtual NIC and virtual switch port.

Force10 Networks Opens Up "Data Center Network" Portal on InfoTech Spotlight

Also at Interop, Force10 Networks will launch a "Data Center Network" channel, the newest addition to Technology Marketing Corporation's (TMC) InfoTech Spotlight channel program. The Data Center Network channel promotes the array of data center solutions available from Force10 Networks. In addition, visitors can find valuable resources such as industry news, product guides, testimonials, feature articles and videos. To visit the Data Center Network channel, click here.

InfoTech Spotlight's channels at TMCnet are micro-targeted information portals where readers can find topic-specific news, articles, feature stories and product reviews. TMCnet has nearly 2 million visitors and more than 40 million page views per month, according to Webtrends.
