NeoScale CryptoStor Tape Becomes the First Storage Security Appliance Integrated Into HP Enterprise Backup Solutions

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 21 /-- NeoScale Systems Inc., the premier storage security company, today announced that its CryptoStor(R) Tape appliance can be integrated with the HP StorageWorks Extended Tape Library Architecture (ETLA), including the EML E-Series tape libraries and HP's Ultrium LTO-3 drives, as part of an HP Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS).

A new white paper from HP describes how to integrate CryptoStor into an EBS environment to add encryption into an organization's current data protection strategy, providing interoperability of NeoScale's easy-to-install, easy-to-manage security solution with HP StorageWorks tape libraries.

"Working together on this EBS white paper has deepened our relationship with HP and demonstrates our shared commitment to enable customers to support compliance and risk management objectives by implementing a strong storage security strategy that can be extended across multiple platforms and devices," said James Yu, vice president of Business Development, NeoScale.

A readily deployable, high-speed tape security appliance that compresses, encrypts, and digitally authenticates data as it goes to tape media, the CryptoStor Tape appliance intercepts backup/restore communications between hosts and tape libraries, centrally managing and fully offloading tape media security functions. It seamlessly integrates with backup applications and functions without disrupting backup processes. NeoScale's Global Key Management ensures encryption keys are always secured and readily available at authorized sites, such as disaster recovery centers.

"Encryption should be done in a way that does not inhibit other aspects of data protection," said Bob Wilson, vice president of nearline storage in the StorageWorks Division at HP. "Our EBS testing requirements are very stringent, and NeoScale's tape security appliance is a strong security product that meets our performance and manageability requirements. This solution white paper featuring the CryptoStor Tape appliance provides our customers an easy way to integrate encryption as part of their fundamental business processes."

As part of the solution development process, multiple tests were performed to measure the performance of the CryptoStor appliance for both backup and restore functions. Other tests include compression, selective encryption, administration, ease of use, and overall management capabilities. With CryptoStor appliances, customers can reap the benefits of a proven storage security solution that seamlessly integrates with widely used backup applications, including HP OpenView Storage Data Protector (scheduled to be available March 2006) and Symantec NetBackup, without disrupting backup processes.

In support of the HP EBS, NeoScale is also announcing a special promotion for HP authorized value-added resellers (VARs). The promotion will offer incentives and training to support HP authorized VARs to deliver the NeoScale solution. The promotion starts immediately and will be in effect for six months.
