NAVTEQ Highlights the Bottom Line Benefits at IAA Commercial Vehicles Show

Key use cases demonstrate the savings and ROI available to the fleet and logistics industry

HANNOVER, Germany - IAA Commercial Vehicles -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world is focusing on a range of potential use cases at IAA this year. The objective is to clearly demonstrate the business benefits, cost savings and returns on investment to be gained by implementing fleet and logistics solutions developed using the company's digital map products.

Supported by leading industry names, NAVTEQ is showcasing key applications such as Usage Based Insurance, Road User Charging (RUC), Ecodriving, Freight & Vehicle Exchange, Green Routing, Fleet Management and Truck Navigation. The stand number is D04 in Hall 24.

o Usage Based Insurance or Road User Charging
Based on charging drivers per kilometres driven as opposed to an annual fee, Usage Based Insurance applications take into account road categories which can be provided by NAVTEQ maps along with features such as speed limits, road curvature or identification of an urban or rural environment. Road User Charging needs detailed mapping to enable the necessary calculations which are also based on usage. Other NAVTEQ technological advances, such as the Map Positioning Engine Development Platform, support application development in this area.

o Ecodriving
From vehicle manufacturers to ordinary drivers, freight transport companies and delivery services, many people using the road network are searching for ways to increase fuel economy and reduce emissions. NAVTEQ Green Streets(TM) represents a bundle of NAVTEQ products which enable applications to help both trucks and cars run more efficiently by taking advantage of information on the road ahead. This advance knowledge means, for example, more efficient operation of automatic transmissions.

o Freight and Vehicle Exchange
An efficient way to minimise transport costs and investment through a virtual marketplace where shippers are put in contact with transport and logistics service providers. Accurate journey distances and the associated costs can be calculated using NAVTEQ maps.

Presented in conjunction with: TimoCom Soft- und Hardware GmbH, a service provider operating the very successful TC Truck&Cargo® freight exchange

o Green Routing
European businesses are increasingly judged on their environmental credentials, including CO2 emissions. NAVTEQ's Green Streets product bundle provides detailed content such as slope and road geometry which, when combined with truck specific road network data, can enable navigation solutions to not only calculate the fastest or shortest routes, but also the most environmentally sound options.

Presented in conjunction with: PTV AG and its map&guide professional 2010 truck route planner which features integrated emissions reporting and includes the first emissions calculation to be certified by an independent body (TUV Sud).

o Fleet Management
Applications such as tracking, routing and trip optimisation offer significant benefits through more efficient use of fleet resources. Adding integrated navigation solutions to fleet management applications presents the opportunity to generate even more gains.

Presented in conjunction with: ALK Technologies and CoPilot Live v8 Professional, a unique suite of software and services which enables enterprises to integrate turn-by-turn GPS navigation within 3rd party workforce mobility and fleet management applications.

o Truck Navigation
Large vehicles have special navigation requirements and, for appropriate and efficient routing, need more information in their systems than cars. NAVTEQ Transport(TM) enables navigation system providers to develop solutions featuring accurate truck specific attributes and content including: legal, height, width, weight, hazardous materials and time or date restrictions plus warnings about upcoming sharp bends or steep hills and also specialist points of interest.

Presented in conjunction with: Punch Telematix and the new truck navigation application for its CarCube on-board computer which features NAVTEQ Transport data.

In addition there will be a wide range of NAVTEQ products on show including:

o NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns(TM): a database of historic average traffic speeds which enables predictive route planning and arrival times
o Truck POIs: an innovative database designed for the freight and transport industry and focusing on filling stations, truck stops and related information
o Environmental Zones: highlights areas where certain types of vehicle are prohibited
