NAVIGON and Clear Channel Strike a Partnership

Deal could lead to a whole new traffic paradigm for navigation products

LAS VEGAS and CHICAGO, Jan. 9 /- (CES Booth #6011) -- NAVIGON, Inc., the leading navigation software provider, today announced an agreement with Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network, a division of Clear Channel Radio, to work toward providing packaged, accurate and reliable real- time traffic information across personal navigation devices (PND) directed by the company's suite of MobileNavigator(TM) (MN) software solutions.

This business model radically changes the industry's historic and cumbersome subscription-based traffic model that is widely held to be an obstacle to mass market adoption. By striking an agreement to incorporate this service as a standard feature included in the cost of the traffic-ready products running NAVIGON software, consumers would bypass the setup and subscription registration process.

"We think making the integration between PND products and traffic information as simple as possible will encourage rapid consumer adoption of a service that extends the value of navigation units," said Andreas Hecht, NAVIGON's General Manager for the Americas. "Our intent to deliver this will markedly differentiate NAVIGON-based products by offering a richer navigation experience over the lifetime of a product."

NAVIGON's MN software will work together with Traffic Message Channel (TMC) receivers, both external and embedded, to deliver updated traffic information in real-time to drivers. Continuing updates about accidents, roadwork and traffic jams, filtered based upon the route programmed into NAVIGON software, will deliver the best possible data to traveling business professionals and soccer moms alike as they move from place to place.

"NAVIGON's innovative thinking behind this business model helps facilitate our mission to provide drivers with the intelligence they need to make informed decisions -- wherever they go," said Jeff Littlejohn, Executive Vice President for Distribution Development, Clear Channel Radio.

"Aligning Total Traffic Network's industry leading service with NAVIGON's Mobile Navigator software suite will provide a complete packaged solution for Consumer Electronics Manufacturers and end users too."
