Delphi Targets Value-Oriented Consumer With New NAV200 Portable Size Navigation System

NAV200 offers a unique blend of advanced navigation and entertainment features in a sleek, pocket-size package

TROY, Mich., Sept. 20 / -- Delphi Corporation's new portable navigation system, NAV200, will be available for sale in October, company officials announced today.

First time users of navigation will find this unit, which is not much bigger than your hand, less intimidating and easy-to-use. Ready to go right out of the box, the NAV200 installs in just two simple steps via an included suction cup goose-neck windshield mount or unique suction disk for dash mount.

New users will also avoid the typical hassles of downloading navigation software on the computer and synchronizing it with the unit. Instead the NAV200 comes with U.S. (including Hawaii, Alaska & Puerto Rico) and Canada maps already preloaded on a secure digital (SD) card. There is no downloading required. And if something were to happen to the SD card, back up map files are stored on an included DVD.

The NAV200 home screen features a bright, colorful interface with large round icons on a touch screen for simple selections. In fact, the NAV200 software is based on the familiar Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE operating system for a comfortable user experience.

Voice guided directions via built in speakers also make navigating simpler by eliminating the need to look at the screen once your preferred route is set.

"Industry trends show the personal navigation market is expected to grow more than double over last year," stated Adiel Avelar, global navigation business line manager, Delphi Consumer Electronics. "Part of this growth is driven by a convergence of different technologies such as navigation and entertainment. Combining these technologies at a fair price adds significant value and is very appealing to a large group of underserved, first time users who want more for their money."

Delphi NAV200 operates in two modes, standard and advanced, which helps maintain appeal to a broad range of consumers with varying levels of navigation experience.

The NAV200 boasts industry-leading navigation features. It is driven by one of the most powerful processors in the industry at 400 mHz for faster routing calculations. NAV200 features a high quality SIRFstart(TM) III GPS chipset antenna, which offers high sensitivity to position for improved mapping accuracy. And it uses the industry-leading NAVTEQ(TM) mapping database, which is trusted by popular online mapping services and several automakers. This combination of advanced navigation features results in fast and accurate routing calculations -- packaged together at a very competitive price.

Real time traffic readiness provides city commuters the option of adding Traffic Monitoring Channel (TMC) programming, a subscription-based service that provides navigation systems with traffic information that is broadcast via radio stations. By using TMC, which requires an optional adaptor, NAV200 will receive up-to-the-minute traffic information and adjust the route accordingly.

"In addition to the sophisticated navigation features, NAV200 has popular entertainment functionality including a movie player, music player and picture viewer for use when not navigating," stated Avelar. "Delphi has found a way to effectively blend these desirable technologies while maintaining a budget- conscious price that cannot currently be found in the industry."

The NAV200 popular entertainment features are accessed via optional SD cards. SD memory cards are available for purchase and should be used to store media files such as video (avi), images (jpg, gif, png) and/or audio (mp3, wav) files. The entertainment features are also complemented by a world clock, calculator and game.

The NAV200's sleek portable package features a large 3.5" bright, anti-glare, full color LCD touch screen great for watching movies or a picture show in the backseat, at home or on the go with a built-in, rechargeable three-hour battery.

After its North American debut, the Delphi NAV200 will be sold globally in Europe, Asia Pacific and South America.

The Delphi NAV200 is priced at $349.99 and will be available this October at major retailers or direct from Delphi (Pink Sheets: DPHIQ). For more information about this product or to purchase the Delphi NAV200, visit nav200.delphi.com/ .
