National Semiconductor to Showcase New, Industry-Leading Low-Jitter Analog Products for Professional and Broadcast Video at NAB 2007

What: National demonstrates its high-performance analog chip solutions at NAB

Where: Booth N5117 at Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada

When: April 16 - 19, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 13 -- National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) will showcase its latest industry- leading low-jitter digital and analog video products for the professional and broadcast markets at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention, April 16-19, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. National will conduct live demonstrations of its analog solutions, including a 3 Gbps (3G) serial digital interface (SDI) product family addressing the new Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 424M specification, analog video switcher and low-jitter sync separator, and a new low-jitter cable equalizer that can extend the reach of digital visual interface (DVI) and high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable connections beyond 40 meters.

National Broadcast Video Demonstrations -- Booth N5117

o 3G SDI Serializer and Deserializer: With the industry's first discrete 3G multi-rate SDIserializer and deserializer (SerDes), National highlights the exceptional jitter performance of this new chipset interfaced with both Xilinx Spartan and Altera Cyclone field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

o 3G SDI Chipset: A distribution amplifier consisting of National's new 3G SDI equalizer, reclocker and cable driver shows the chipset's signal conditioning capabilities for standard definition (SD), high-definition (HD) and 3G SDI transmissions. A signal generator will drive a video source signal over a long coaxial cable. The signal will attenuate and accumulate jitter after traveling over the cable at high serial data rates. National's 3G SDI serial chipset will automatically detect the incoming data rate, equalize, reclock and drive the signal out to a waveform analyzer to demonstrate the high-quality, reconstructed signal integrity and ultra-low jitter.

o Analog Video Switcher: Designers can increase picture resolution in various wideband video applications, including routers, matrix switchers, security/surveillance systems and video distribution. The LMH6583 16 x 8 analog crosspoint switch provides the industry's highest bandwidth (500 MHz), giving systems a boost in bandwidth to extend video resolution to QXGA (2048 x 1536) and beyond. In addition, the low channel-to-channel crosstalk of -48 dBc at 100 MHz improves picture clarity by minimizing video artifacts and shadows from adjacent channels.

o Low-Jitter Sync Separator: The LMH1981 multi-format video synchronization separator offers the industry's best jitter performance, allowing designers to accurately and precisely extract horizontal and vertical sync signals without extra filtering and jitter-cleaning stages. The chip performs all the necessary sync separation to generate low-jitter horizontal and vertical sync signals for NTSC, PAL, 480i/p, 720p and 1080i/p video formats. The demonstration's close-up view of the H-sync output's falling edge highlights the low peak-to-peak jitter performance.

o HDMI/DVI: The industry's lowest-jitter cable equalizer extends digital visual interface (DVI) and high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable reach beyond 40 meters. Using a 42-inch 1080p flat-panel LCD monitor, National's demonstration of its new DS16EV5110 equalizer displays crystal clear picture quality while carrying a 1080p video signal from a popular gaming device over three types of cable. The DS16EV5110 can extend HDMI and DVI cables to greater than 40 meters, and CAT5 cable to greater than 25 meters.
