National Semiconductor's LM3370 Integrated DC-DC Converter Receives DesignVision Award from International Engineering Consortium

Third Consecutive Year Company's Technology Honored for Innovation
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 30 -- National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM) today announced that the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has honored National's highly integrated LM3370 DC-DC converter with its prestigious DesignVision Award.
This is the third consecutive year National has won a DesignVision award. Previously, the organization selected the WEBENCH® Active Filter Designer online tool and PPDS® technology and chipset, an intra-panel interface enabling cinema-quality display performance for LCD TVs up to 90 inches in diagonal.
The DesignVision Awards program recognizes technologies, applications, products and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the industry over the past year. The IEC announced the winners Jan. 30 during a special ceremony at DesignCon 2007 in Santa Clara, Calif.
"IEC's DesignVision Awards honor those catalyzing positive change in high-technology, business and academia, completely in line with the IEC's mission," said IEC Executive President Roger Plummer. "We're pleased to give tribute to the innovators who have helped advance progress in electronic design."
The IEC selected the LM3370 as the winner in the semiconductor and integrated circuits category based on its innovation, market impact and benefits to customers. A member of National's digitally programmable, multiple-output power management family, the LM3370 dual-channel, step-down DC-DC converter features a digital I2C compatible interface that enables design engineers to customize electrical specifications such as output voltage and switching modes to the end application.
The converter's digital interface provides the flexibility to use the same device for multiple solutions that require different output voltages, as well as to maximize power savings in the end application. It includes buck regulators that provide more than 90 percent efficiency over the entire load current range. Power consumption is further minimized through a dynamic voltage-scaling feature that enables the design engineer to modify the output voltage in real time to match the computing workload and clock frequencies of the corresponding processors.
