Synology Means Business with New DS209+ NAS Server

New Model Is Fastest 2-Drive NAS Server Available and Comes Packed With Features That Appeal to SMB and Corporate Customers

REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 17, 2008 -- Synology America Corporation today kicked off its 2009 model lineup with the announcement of the DS209+ SATA NAS server. The DS209+ is the latest addition to Synology's "Business Class" lineup of NAS servers that offers SMB and corporate customers an unbeatable blend of maximum performance, features, and low cost of ownership, while being earth-friendly.

The DS209+ is a compact 2-drive SATA NAS server with up to 3TB capacity (using 1.5TB drives) and can be configured for RAID 0/1. The DS209+ is capable of blazing fast 42+MB/sec reading and 36+MB/sec writing performance, equaling the performance of Synology's flagship DS508 model. Standard features include a gigabit LAN port, external storage expansion via eSATA port, 2 Hi-Speed USB ports, and a quiet smart fan that varies the fan speed based on environmental conditions. The DS209+ is at home on a Windows®, Macintosh®, or Linux-based network.

Installation and configuration are a snap, thanks to the AJAX-based Disk Station Manager (DSM) 2.0 NAS management software. The DSM 2.0 software also enables a Synology NAS server to perform functions that typically require a PC-based server including website hosting, file downloading, network-wide backup, and even video surveillance. Simply connect one or more IP cameras to the network and the Surveillance Station feature of DSM 2.0 allows for recording and playback of surveillance video.

Using a Synology NAS server instead of a traditional dedicated server saves energy and money, which is music to the ears of business owners. Synology cares for the environment by constructing its NAS servers from RoHS-compliant materials and packaging made from recycled materials.

"The Synology Business Class lineup of NAS servers aims to meet SMB and corporate customers' demands for high performance and low cost of ownership," said Cheen Liao, President of Synology America. "The DS209+ offers the highest performance available in a 2-drive NAS server without breaking the budget," Mr. Liao added.

Pricing and Availability

The DS209+ will be available in December at popular resellers and distributors for a list price of $499 without drives.
