Portwell Expands Family of Low-Power Nano-ITX Boards Featuring Intel SCH US15W Chipset and Intel GS45 Chipset

FREMONT, CALIF-May 21, 2009-Building on the success of its NANO-8044-the first ever Nano-ITX board based on the low power Intel® Atom(TM) processor Z510/Z530 and Intel System Controller Hub (Intel SCH) US15W-American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the embedded computing market and a member of the Intel Embedded and Communications Alliance (Intel ECA), announces two new additions to this popular platform: NANO-8045 and NANO-8050. At mere 120mm x 120mm (4.72" x 4.72"), the compact NANO-8045 and NANO-8050 measure only 50 percent of the standard Mini-ITX form factor and are the perfect solution for a range of low-power systems and handheld mobile devices in applications such as medical healthcare, in-vehicle infotainment, mobile kiosk, mobile gaming, digital entertainment, digital signage and portable POS.

NANO-8045: Continuing the legacy

Like its predecessor the NANO-8044, American Portwell's NANO-8045 continues to utilize Intel Atom processor Z510/Z530 and System Controller Hub (SCH) US15W. It features one 200-pin SO-DIMM that supports DDR2 SDRAM up to 2GB; dual independent display via DVI and 24-bit LVDS; one Type II CompactFlash and two SATA ports; audio support; one Gigabit Ethernet; and supports 12V DC output.

"The NANO-8045 is specifically designed to operate at a very low power consumption (less than 10 watts at full loading) and low heat," says Jack Lam, American Portwell Technology's senior product marketing manager, "so it can be a truly fanless and battery operated configuration that supports multiple storage devices. With its onboard DC input adapter, the NANO-8045 is a small form factor board that can reduce the size of the overall system without the need for an internal DC adapter board," Lam confirms. "In addition, DVI output provides improved digital video in native resolution and the SATA port supports a greater selection of storage devices."

NANO-8050: Greater performance at Ultra Low Voltages "The new ultra low voltage NANO-8050 is a second generation Nano-ITX board that underscores Portwell's continuing commitment to producing superior small form factor embedded system boards," says Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology's product marketing director. "It features Intel GS45 Express chipset integrated with a built-in GMA 4500MHD graphic engine to provide excellent 3D graphics performance and supports Intel Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Core(TM) 2 Duo and Celeron® M processors."

Shen confirms that the NANO-8050 features one 200-pin SO-DIMM that supports DDR2 SDRAM up to 4GB; dual independent display via VGA and 24-bit LVDS; one Type II CompactFlash; one Gigabit Ethernet; and expansion via one PCI-E x1. "The NANO-8050 supports both Active Management Technology (AMT) and Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which means it can provide remote system management and enhanced security," Shen explains. "It offers the combination of a compact form factor and low heat output while delivering high performance. And it provides the long life cycle support that customers have come to expect from Portwell."

"The new NANO-8050 is probably the most powerful Nano-ITX you can find today," Shen affirms, "it has identical, feature-rich I/O interface as the NANO-8044 for easy upgrade, and furthermore, it provides an excellent upgrade path for users of our NANO-8044 or anyone who wants to pack the most CPU performance into the smallest space available."
