Nalco Mobotec Announces Mercury Control Contract with Portland General Electric (PGE)

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Nalco Mobotec, Inc., the global leader in air protection technology, announces the signing of a contract with Portland General Electric Company (NYSE: POR) for mercury emission control at PGE's Boardman Station in Boardman, Oregon. The three-year agreement will help PGE reduce mercury emissions in order to comply with the State of Oregon's mercury emissions regulations, which take effect July 1, 2012.

PGE performed testing and balance of plant initiatives to assess the effectiveness of mercury reduction technologies and selected Nalco Mobotec's patented MERCONTROL® 7895 technology. Used in conjunction with activated carbon, Nalco's MERCONTROL system will help the utility achieve the required reduction in mercury emissions. Although Oregon regulations mandate mercury control beginning in 2012, PGE will commence treating its emissions for mercury control in 2011.

Per the agreement, Nalco Mobotec will deliver its patented MERCONTROL 7895 chemistries to the Boardman Station beginning in June of 2011.

"We applaud PGE's proactive efforts for mercury reduction and will support them in future endeavors with Nalco Mobotec's value-added solutions for multi-pollutant control," said Dave Flitman, Nalco Senior Executive Vice President and President, Water and Process Services. "Our MERCONTROL technology is giving the power industry the ability to take significant steps in the removal of mercury from their emissions. As we continue to see more stringent emissions regulations, our customers are using Nalco Mobotec's innovative, differentiated solutions to quickly come into compliance."
