NAB2013: Cei to Represent Hybrid's Trackless 3d Virtual Studio Solution in the Americas

Hybrid and CEI announce dealer agreement focused on affordable NEON virtual studio solution with real-time virtual camera motion

Montrouge, France – Hybrid, a leading provider of real-time graphics and robotic camera systems, has signed a dealer agreement with Communications Engineering, Inc. (CEI) - a leading systems integration firm in Newington, VA - to represent the Hybrid brand in the Americas, with particular focus on Hybrid’s Neon trackless 3D virtual studio solution. CEI will provide sales and technical support for Hybrid’s line of virtual studio and robotic camera products.

Hybrid will exhibit Neon in booth C9908 during the 2013 NAB Show from April 8-11th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The company’s exhibit will also feature its flagship Krypton 3D tracking virtual studio solution, Chrome broadcast robotic jib, and robotic camera systems.

“CEI has an outstanding reputation based on the quality of its work for a very wide range of customers,” said Olivier Cohen, CEO, Hybrid. “The CEI team is well known in the industry for their insight, recommendations, and expertise. As our new partner, CEI will raise the visibility of Neon and provide their usual high standard of technical support to our customers in the Americas,” Cohen added.

Since the firm was founded in 1986, CEI has tackled some of the most challenging systems integration projects in the Mid-Atlantic region for broadcast networks including: NBC News, Fox News, Comcast SportsNet, Discovery Channel, and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). They’ve also completed challenging studio projects for large organizations, such as Voice of America, The Newseum, The Library of Congress, and John Hopkins University. Hybrid’s Neon trackless virtual studio system joins CEI’s the portfolio of broadcast and media IT equipment that the firm sells and services.

“We’re excited to represent Neon because it’s a unique virtual studio solution that can be set-up and ready to go right out of the box,” said Phil Whitebloom, CEI’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We chose Neon as one of three technologies we highlighted at our Open House Hands-On Demo day held earlier this year because so many of our customers wanted to learn more about it.”

While many of the virtual studio solutions currently on the market are expensive or technically complex, the Neon trackless virtual studio solution is a user-friendly system that simply requires software running on a PC. Neon supports up to five live HD/SD camera inputs and can be controlled via Hybrid’s Ozone software controller or through BPI I/O production switchers, such as Broadcast Pix, Sony, or Grass Valley production switchers.

Rather than camera tracking and calibration technology, the Neon 3D virtual studio solution enables virtual camera movements in real-time from fixed cameras on set. Despite its simplicity, the 3D virtual scenes are photo-realistic and anti-aliased. Users can either use Neon’s set design tools, or import virtual sets created using 3D Max, Maya, Softimage, or other common modeling software.

“Neon is a complete virtual studio in a box, and at this entry level price point [of $45-60K], it’s ideal for customers who find high-end virtual set systems out of reach due to their cost and complexity,” said Cohen. “With Neon, customers can produce shows with a live multi-camera look using very aesthetic or imaginative virtual sets.”
