Multisorb Technologies Launches Sorbent Packaging Solutions to the Organics Food Market

Buffalo, NY, October 29, 2006 -- Multisorb Technologies, the worldwide leader in active packaging innovations, announces the expansion of its sorbent technology into the organic foods market. Multisorb's FreshPax®, FreshMax®, and FreshCard® Oxygen Absorbers keep packaged food fresh longer, improving brand integrity and enabling greater product distribution flexibility. These technologies are especially critical for natural and organic foods since they remove the need for food additives or preservatives. They will be on display at PACK EXPO 2006, McCormick Place Convention Center, Chicago, October 29-November 2, at Booth #S-236.

Oxidation within packaging, for example of unsaturated fats, can result in mold growth, unpleasant odors and food spoilage that is visible to consumers at point of purchase or after opening a product's packaging. Multisorb's sorbents prevent the growth of aerobic pathogens, including molds, and they eliminate the need for additives such as BHA, BHT, sulfur dioxide, sorbates, benzoates and other products. They extend shelf life for numerous food products such as sliced deli meats, nuts, baked goods, snack foods and dairy products.

"As the year 2007 approaches, organic food continues to become a more popular choice for consumers. In keeping with this trend toward health conscious food choices, Multisorb has developed technologies that help organic food manufactures bring their products to store shelves without the risk of oxygen degradation," said Multisorb's John F. Solomon, National Business Development Leader, Specialty Foods. Solomon adds that according to the US Department of Agriculture, growth in retail sales of organic foods has equaled 20 percent or more annually since 1990.

Made of food grade materials, FreshPax Oxygen Absorbing Packets and Strips are inserted loosely into product packaging, while FreshMax Oxygen Absorbing Patches feature an adhesive layer and are sealed to the underside of a package. Patches provide a flat, flexible format with an ultra-thin, low profile design. While other sorbent solutions such as foil lids mask the visibility of the product, FreshMax and FreshPax sorbents allow for the use of clear packaging, which is often preferred by organic food producers.

Multisorb's FreshCard Oxygen Absorbing Cards are used as backer cards in packaging and are designed to fit sizes up to 4" by 4". They are ideal for packaging individually sold baked products such as cookies, muffins and cake slices.
