Multisorb Introduces the New Simulsorb(TM) Service to India

Ideal Moisture Management Recommendations are achieved through Advanced Simulations

Mumbai, India (December 1, 2006) - Multisorb Technologies, a global leader in cutting-edge active packaging technologies, introduces the new SimulSorb(TM) service to India's fast growing pharmaceutical packaging market at the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress 2006, Mumbai, December 1 - 3, 2006. The value-added service determines the exact amount of sorbent required to protect packaged pharmaceutical products from various pathways of chemical and physical degradation, helping to enhance drug stability.

The SimulSorb service leverages Multisorb's analytical capabilities to pseudo-empirically predict, for example, the relative humidity of a pharmaceutical package's headspace and drug product hydration level. The program's simulations can help pharmaceutical manufacturers reach a stability solution faster, speeding time to market by at least six months.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers typically utilize oxygen and ingress modeling to analyze pharmaceutical degradation rates, but conducting the analysis can be a time-consuming process. SimulSorb performs the analysis for pharmaceutical manufacturers by identifying Moisture Vapor Transmission (MVTR) and Oxygen Transfer (OTR) rates to calculate the moisture and oxygen ingress value. This calculation helps determine the quantity of active sorbent necessary to ensure shelf-life and product stability. It also results in cost savings by identifying the exact amount of sorbent needed for a given drug product's stability requirements.

"SimulSorb is an important in-kind service where we lend our expertise to customers," says Adrian Possumato, global manager, pharmaceutical market, Multisorb. "It is a very powerful tool for both the formulation chemist and the packaging engineer."

SimulSorb service is an important part of Multisorb's systems approach, which provides consultation to customers "from calculations through operations." It includes analysis of all aspects of the moisture protection process, from pharmaceutical formulation to the packaging environment and throughout the distribution chain. The systems approach offers management strategies to preserve drug integrity in addition to providing sorbent technology, insertion equipment and technical support to manufacturers whose products require moisture and oxygen to be managed.

Multisorb Technologies has been an innovator in sorbent technology for over 40 years. Founded in 1961 by John S. Cullen to protect products against the damaging effects of moisture, today Multisorb is North America's largest producer of packaged and fabricated sorbents and the world leader in active packaging components.

Multisorb's corporate offices are located at 325 Harlem Road, Buffalo, NY 14224-1893 USA. In North America, for more information contact: 1-888-SORBENT (767-2368), International inquiries please call: +1 716-824-8900; Fax: +1 716-824-4128; E-mail: info@multisorb.com
