Multimedia Telecom Applications to be Demonstrated by Surf Communication Solutions at NXTcomm

Surf's AMC DSP multimedia processing boards, pre-integrated with leading ATCA® and MicroTCATM platforms, enable convergence of voice, video and data across wireline and wireless networks

YOKNE'AM, Israel, June 19 - SURF Communication Solutions® ("Surf") will be demonstrating its voice and video media processing capabilities at the NXTcomm Expo to be held June 19-21 in Chicago, Illinois. The demonstrations, carried out over AdvancedTCA® and MicroTCATM platforms, utilize Surf's SurfRider/AMC(TM) DSP resource boards and media processing enabling technologies, which are based on TI's TMS320C64x(TM) DSP generation. The demonstrations will include multimedia communication applications over IP and I-TDM and will illustrate capabilities designed for media server, media gateway, and messaging solutions. Text overlay, an example of one of these capabilities, enables both static and dynamic inclusion and modification of multilingual messages on video-enabled devices. Visitors to the Surf booth can witness this feature in on-going live demonstrations.

In the Interphase booth #3877, the recently announced I-TDM technology integration between Interphase, Motorola and Surf will be demonstrated on a Motorola Centellis(TM) 31KX AdvancedTCA chassis with Surf's SurfRider/AMC multimedia DSP processing board, Interphase's iSPAN 3639® AMC T1/E1/J1 communications controller for control and monitoring, and iSPAN 3602® AMC Dual Gigabit Ethernet Network Interface Card hosted on Interphase's iNVAV 31K AMC Intelligent Carrier ATCA Blade.

In addition, Surf will be demonstrating a variety of multimedia telecom applications - such as multiple-participant video conferencing, a video portal (IVVR), and video messaging - based on its complete line of multimedia processing platforms and solutions, which will be on display in the Surf booth #3875 as well as in the PICMG pavilion #4257V.

Key Features in the Surf-based Demonstrations

Conferencing between video-supported IP phones and PSTN phone using I-TDM connectivity

DTMF-activated video portal (IVVR)

Content adaptation (voice & video) to match terminal capabilities:

o Transcoding

o Resizing

o Transrating

o Frame rate conversion

Multiple call handling simultaneously by a single DSP

Surf's products are optimized for media gateway applications and media server/CTI/ messaging/ streaming/ recording/ conferencing applications. Audio and video streaming capabilities as well as audio and video mixing capabilities (including dominant speaker detection and dynamic text overlay) are also supported. These solutions are provided on a variety of platforms: AMC/PTMC DSP farms as well as PCI Express cards and DSP chips. In addition, Surf has cooperation agreements with leading cPCI, ATCA and MicroTCA manufacturers to provide an integrated solution of Surf's AMC/PTMC mezzanine cards mounted on cPCI, ATCA and MicroTCA carriers.

Surf's approach is unique, since all other solutions separate audio and video processing and run them on different DSPs/sub-systems, or divide the processing between the host and the DSP. Running them together makes the solution more effective (cost, quality and performance-wise) since it enables dynamic (during run-time) modification of the channel to support audio applications now, and audio + video later.

About Surf Communication Solutions

SURF Communication Solutions® develops a suite of hardware and software products that drives a wide variety of applications whose common goal is high- capacity distribution of voice and video. These applications are predominantly developed by media gateway, media server and IMS equipment manufacturers in the telecommunication infrastructure field.

The Surf engine is an off-the-shelf fully converged audio/video media processing subsystem that integrates easily into media gateways and servers. It is available in various integration levels, such as AdvancedMC, PTMC, PCI Express and PCI form factor resource boards or DSP chips, which are pre-integrated with leading AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA and cPCI carrier boards and blades.
