ADTRAN Introduces World's First Outside Plant Broadband Multimedia Gateway

Total Access 1124P Enhances Broadband Coverage and Voice over IP Migration

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--June 19, 2007-- ADTRAN®, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), the world's leading supplier of Outside Plant (OSP) DSLAMs, today announced the Total Access® 1124P Outside Plant Broadband Multimedia Gateway (OSP BMG), allowing service providers to deliver baseband POTS and broadband multimedia to any customer over a single phone line. The Total Access 1124P combines the technology and cost-saving benefits of the OSP DSLAM with a POTS to Voice over IP (VoIP) gateway to expand service delivery in the access network. Environmentally sealed and hardened, the Total Access 1124P operates with ADTRAN's Total Access 5000 MSAP family to provide a complete broadband access solution.

"Finding a cost-effective and reliable means to extend broadband coverage is a major challenge for carriers of all sizes," said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst, Broadband and IPTV, Infonetics. "ADTRAN's Total Access 1124P is a flexible solution that meets these objectives. It cost-effectively enables triple play services, allowing carriers to extend their reach and grow their revenue base."

"Broadband will enable the greatest revenue opportunities, and VoIP offers tremendous savings over traditional voice switches," said Eric Vallone, director of product management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "The 1124P is a simple and extremely cost-effective approach to address these two major challenges."

As a member of ADTRAN's family of OSP DSLAMs, the Total Access 1124P OSP Broadband Multimedia Gateway can be mounted at pole, crossbox, and remote terminal locations without additional enclosures, greatly decreasing the operational and capital expenditures associated with deploying alternative cabinet-based solutions. It can be locally or line-powered and is equipped with integrated splitters and primary protection.

In areas where only copper connectivity is available, the Total Access 1124P can be equipped with an optional Ethernet in the First Mile over Copper (EFMC) network uplink, enabling enhanced broadband service delivery over copper. Where fiber is available, the Total Access 1124P is a powerful Fiber To The Node (FTTN) device, utilizing Gigabit Ethernet uplinks for greater bandwidth capacity. With the flexibility to serve both copper and fiber-fed locations, the OSP BMG enables complete multimedia offerings over a next-generation Ethernet infrastructure.
