QUALCOMM Announces MSM6125 Chipset with Features to Enable Doubling of System Capacity and Advanced Position-Location Capabilities

Company Extends CDMA2000 1X Innovations With New Benefits for Network Operators and Manufacturers of Mainstream Mobile Handsets -

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 3 /-- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the first solution for mainstream handsets that can enable a doubling of system capacity for CDMA2000(R) 1X networks without changes to air interface standards. The Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) MSM6125(TM) chipset is part of QUALCOMM's Multimedia Platform of solutions and features:

o The industry's Fourth-Generation Vocoder(TM) (4GV(TM))
o Mobile receive diversity
o Advanced position-location capabilities, such as increased GPS sensitivity, enhanced GPS filtering, simultaneous operation of voice and GPS positioning, and Standalone-GPS
o Pin and software compatibility with the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO MSM6500(TM) chipset

These enhancements offer network operators system capacity benefits, improved data throughput and new, cost-effective features that enhance the user experience. Device manufacturers can also significantly reduce their development costs and time-to-market for new mass-market devices by leveraging existing EV-DO handset designs and applications. The MSM6125 is expected to sample during the fourth quarter of calendar year 2005.

"The MSM6125 solution further strengthens the continued growth of CDMA2000 1X networks worldwide by bringing significant new system benefits and advanced position-location functionality to these networks without changing the air interface standards," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "Enhancements made in this chipset leverage network operator investments and strengthen voice and data offerings for their mainstream wireless users, while manufacturers are offered a new choice for the mainstream market that leverages development from existing chipset platforms."

The MSM6125 Multimedia Platform chipset enables increased system capacity for CDMA2000 1X networks by featuring the 4GV solution, a core voice codec suite that increases system capacity by giving network operators the flexibility to prioritize voice quality or network capacity as needed. QUALCOMM's mobile receive diversity solutions use an additional antenna and associated receive chain to deliver higher data throughput and significant increases in network capacity, enhance network performance on the forward link and reduce the incidence of dropped calls. With 4GV and mobile receive diversity, the MSM6125 solution allows network operators to realize up to a 60 percent increase in overall system capacity. These capacity enhancement solutions are also supported by all of QUALCOMM's CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and EV-DO Revision A chipsets. The additional implementation of four-way receive diversity at the base station can deliver up to double the system capacity within the same spectrum.

The MSM6125 chipset's comprehensive position-location capabilities further enhance the user experience by including:

o State-of-the-art -159 dBm GPS sensitivity
o Simultaneous-GPS for concurrent voice and positioning fix to enable seamless E911 calls and voice-based location services
o Enhanced GPS filtering to boost the precision of navigation applications
o Standalone-GPS capabilities for off-network navigation

QUALCOMM's complete MSM6125 solution includes the RFR6500(TM) or the RFR6185(TM) radioOne(R) receive, the RFT6150(TM) transmit and the PM6650(TM) power management devices.
