Epson Introduces Multifunction POS Printer with Check 21 Migration Path Ideal for Retail and Supermarket Industries

Top Speed, Reliability and MICR Accuracy Maximize Savings

CHICAGO, May 22 -- Today at the Retail Systems show, Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, introduced the TM-H6000III -- a multifunction POS printer ideal for retail and supermarket retailers looking to improve printing performance and reduce check processing costs. With top-speed receipt printing and advanced check processing with 99.9+% MICR accuracy, the TM-H6000III is a solid choice for retailers looking to optimize cost savings with electronic check conversion (ECC) today, while providing a migration path for retailers interested in moving toward Check 21 image exchange in the future.

Since checks still represent a significant number of retail and supermarket transactions, retailers can implement ECC today to process checks more efficiently. In field testing, Epson's TM-H6000-series POS printers consistently achieved 99.9% MICR accuracy -- outperforming competitors. With the TM-H6000III, retailers can virtually eliminate MICR misreads to keep returned check costs at a minimum. The TM-H6000III reads MICR and prints and endorses a check in a single pass, which shortens check printing time up to 50% over "check flipping" options. This feature, combined with the fastest thermal receipt printing available -- up to 63 lines per second -- offers retailers ultra-fast transaction times.

As retailers embrace check and ID imaging and move toward image exchange to take advantage of cost savings associated with ECC and Check 21, Epson's TM-H6000III provides a low-cost solution for today, with a migration path for the future. The TM-H6000III can be upgraded to image checks and IDs, providing retailers the option to move toward technologies that lower check handling costs, minimize check and identity fraud, and help comply with legislation requiring ID verification for a growing number of products. When and if the retailer is ready to implement imaging, Epson's TM-H6000III can be upgraded to support full, two-sided imaging.

Legacy and Standard Connectivity

With Epson's complete line of Connect-It(TM) interface options, the TM- H6000III is compatible with proprietary systems and today's best-of-breed PC- based POS solutions to ensure the customer's system investment is protected. The TM-H6000III supports IBM(R) 4610 native mode emulation; RS-232 and bi-directional parallel interfaces; RS-485; USB; and USB PlusPower, allowing retailers to select the interface that meets current needs and the ability to upgrade as needs change.
