Multi-Speed Blowers utilize electronically commutated motor.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring weatherized, direct drive, non-explosion-proof design, Intelli-Sense Multi-Speed Blowers are controlled by 2- or 3-position switch. Units can exhaust fume hoods from 3–7 ft in width at full sash open height and 100 fpm face velocity. Phenolic coated steel models are recommended for low to moderately corrosive applications, while fiberglass units suit highly corrosive environments. For extremely corrosive atmospheres produced by high order oxidizers, PVC models are available.

Original Press Release:

Labconco's Intelli-Sense Multi-Speed Blowers Offer You Energy Savings and Easy Selection

The NEW Intelli-Sense Multi-Speed Blowers are weatherized, direct drive, non-explosion-proof blowers controlled by a two or three position switch. Each blower has a reliable electronically commutated motor (ECM), which consumes one third less energy and is easier and less expensive to maintain than belt-drive motors.

The Intelli-Sense Blower provides an economical alternative to traditional on/off blowers. Upon closing the hood sash, the user can turn the Blower switch to stand-by mode to operate the hood at a lower velocity, yet still meet minimum air exchange requirements. Operating the blower at lower speed at night or while the hood is unoccupied, saves money.

Intelli-Sense Blowers take most of the guesswork out of the blower selection process since they are adjustable over broad airflow ranges. They may be used to exhaust fume hoods from 3' to 7' in width at full sash open height and 100 fpm face velocity.

Three types of blowers are available and are recommended for appropriate applications. For low to moderately corrosive applications, Phenolic Coated Steel Blowers are recommended.  Ideal for highly corrosive conditions, Fiberglass Blowers are reinforced with polyester for durability and long life while resisting corrosive atmospheres. PVC Blowers are able to handle extremely corrosive atmospheres produced by high order oxidizers such as perchloric acid. Housings are vacuum formed from unplasticized Type I polyvinyl chloride for complete corrosion protection. A drain connection on the lower portion of the housing allows a washdown system to be used.
