Tellabs Expands Its Line of Tellabs(R) 8800 Multi-Service Routers

High-Capacity, Reduced Footprint Multi-Service Routers Lower Barriers to Converged Network

NAPERVILLE, Ill., May 16 - Tellabs today announced the expansion of its Tellabs(R) 8800 multi-service router (MSR) series with the introduction of the Tellabs(R) 8830 multi-service router. This new addition meets a growing service provider need for technology that lowers the costs of building a converged network infrastructure, while maintaining service flexibility and carrier-class reliability.

The Tellabs 8800 product family anchors the Tellabs(R) MultiservicePLuS(SM) solution. This solution enables guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for any type of access traffic over a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. It also enables service providers to create individualized services with verifiable Service Level Agreements (SLAs), enhance competitive differentiation and generate additional revenue streams.

"Tellabs introduced this product line expansion to enable service providers to offer business-class services in a way that significantly reduces capital and operating expenses," said Tom Gruenwald, executive vice president of broadband networking products, for Tellabs. "This new product retains all the powerful features of the Tellabs 8800 series in an affordable, smaller footprint platform."

The Tellabs 8830 MSR's combination of higher capacity with smaller footprint and optimized module functionality provides lower market-entry costs and economical total cost of ownership. Current market demands for VoIP and support for next-generation applications, such as Video on Demand or wireless/wireline convergence, can easily be accommodated with the Tellabs 8830 MSR.

The Tellabs 8830 MSR also offers uniquely comprehensive service interworking among Layer 2 and Layer 3 services. Additional features and benefits of the Tellabs 8830 MSR include deterministic QoS controls, true service interworking and Tellabs(R) ServiceAssured(SM) upgrades for continuous system availability during software upgrades.
