Exar Introduces Industry's Fastest (52 Mbps) Single-Chip Multi-Protocol Serial Transceiver

Advanced Features -- Best-in-Class Electrostatic Discharge Protection and Adjustable Logic Level -- Critical for Networking and Telecommunications Markets

Fremont, California - Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR) released the industry's fastest (52 Mbps) single-chip multiprotocol serial transceiver - the SP510. The transceiver supports high-speed data traffic, leading industry interface standards, adjustable logic level flexibility (eliminates unnecessary discrete components), and has outstanding ESD protection. These characteristics and other advanced features make the product ideal for routers, frame relay, WAN access, VoIP-PBX gateways, amongst others.

"Exar has strengthened its leadership position in multiprotocol transceivers by the addition of the SP510 into the industry's only family of single-chip multiprotocol high performance transceivers," said Levent Ozcolak, vice president, Interface Product Line. "Building on Exar's widely deployed previous generation of single-chip offerings, SP508 and SP509, this new device has been designed to support the higher data rate requirements of leading edge designs in a variety of networking and telecommunication applications."

Product Features
The SP510 is a highly integrated physical layer solution that can be configured to support multiple serial protocol standards. It incorporates eight (8) drivers and eight (8) receivers, that can be adapted for either differential (V.11 or V.35) or single ended (V.28 and V.10) signaling. The device architecture is designed to support the data and clock signals used in HDLC or SDLC serial ports as either a DTE or DCE. The SP510 enables a Serial Communications Controller (SCC) to implement a variety of serial interface standards including V.10, V.11, V.28 (RS-232), V.35, V.36 (RS-449), EIA-530, EIA-530-A, or X.21. It requires only a single 5V supply for full operation. All bus-pins are protected against severe ESD events up to ±15kV (Human Body Model). Devices are available in Commercial (0 to +70ºC) and Industrial (-40 to +85ºC) operating temperature ranges.

"Supporting high-speed serial communication protocols of up to 52Mbps and a wide range of logic levels between 1.65V to 5.25V, the SP510 is ideal for the new generation of low voltage FPGAs," said Hensen Wong, technical marketing manager, Interface Product Line. "In addition, its superior configurability for multiple serial standards gives SP510 customers augmented design flexibility for their next generation applications."

Prices, Packages, Availability and Additional Information
The SP510 is available now in volume quantities in a RoHS compliant, halogen free 100-pin LQFP package. Pricing starts at $17.70 per unit for 1K pieces.
