Delta Tau Introduces Advantage 900M CNC Control with Macro Ring

Advantage 900 CNC with Open Architecture MACRO for Multi-Axis Applications Improves Performance and Reliability for Maximum Productivity

CHATSWORTH, CA - JANUARY 29, 2007 - Delta Tau Data Systems, the technology leader in multi-axis programmable motion control solutions, has announced the Advantage 900M CNC control, which increases machine tool speed and accuracy by allowing the use of the non-proprietary MACRO (Motion and Control Ring Optical) ring, available in both fiber-optic (100-Base-F) and twisted-pair electrical cable (100-Base-T) formats. Introduced in 1993, the MACRO ring is the very first industrial motion network based on 100 Mbit/sec Ethernet.

The Advantage 900 CNC package combines a well-laid out operator console with the capability of interfacing up to 32-axes of distributed motion hardware in 16 coordinate systems via a simple fiber or RJ-45 communications ring. The Advantage 900M MACRO combination is specifically designed to meet next-generation CNC control requirements. The CNC leverages the capabilities of the operator interface PC, while utilizing a real-time DSP to handle the motion related tasks of the CNC machine. This combination delivers a cost effective PC front end with true real-time servo performance.

The MACRO fiber optic interface provides complete noise immunity, e.g. its electric interface provides isolation and high noise immunity even with large electrically noisy machine tools. The high transmission rate updates every link on the ring at very high frequencies (> 40 kHz for 16 axes), enabling the closure of even the highest-performance servo loops across the ring.

The high update rates and simple protocol enables highly centralized control software that is easier for programmers; and highly distributed electrical hardware that is easier for system hardware designers. Additionally, the use of fiber optic MACRO minimizes the need for copper wire, substantially reducing material and installation costs. Because MACRO is non-proprietary, drives can be sourced from such companies as Delta Tau, Yaskawa, Moog, Baldor and others.

An integrated digital amplifier and control streamlines the manufacturing process, which significantly reduces the cost to the end user. Additional cost savings result from a simplified installation process, which requires less wiring, space and setup time. Because the 900 CNC MACRO is modular, it allows an infinite number of machine configurations.

The 900 CNC supports high-speed machining, dynamic multi-block segmented look-ahead for path fidelity at any speed, forward and inverse kinematics for non-traditional mechanical configurations, 5-axis programming capability, sophisticated lead screw, backlash, and torque compensation.

Features include a 15-inch LCD screen, customizable operator controls, wireless remote pendant with user-definable function keys, an embedded industrial PC, the new user configurable PMAC-NC Pro2 Designer software, and the NC Autopilot quick setup tool, all in a slim line design with up to 32 axis capability. Integration and connectivity between the operator console and the servo amplifier is via a single fiber or RJ-45 cable.

A CNC Autopilot setup utility simplifies integration by automatically creating the configuration files for a particular machine. An Autotune software feature speeds the user through motor setup. The PMAC-NC Pro2 GUI was designed using the PMAC HMI program. This provides the end user with an easy-to-use customizable NC software interface for specific applications. The PMAC-NC Pro2 for Windows software executes standard RS274 G-Code programs and has a wealth of diagnostic screens and tools.
