MTS Offers Canadian Registration Number on Level Plus® Liquid-Level Transmitters

MR and MG approved in all Canadian jurisdictions ...

CARY, N.C. (December 15, 2008) - MTS Systems Corp., Sensors Division has received CRN (Canadian Registration Number) approval from all Canadian jurisdictions for their Level Plus® liquid-level transmitters. CRN identifies that the design of a boiler, pressure vessel, or, in this case, a fitting has been accepted and registered for use in that
jurisdiction. The rigid industrial pipe versions of models MR and MG are now available with a Canada-wide CRN from 508 mm (20 in.) to 7620 mm (300 in.) The Level Plus transmitters are classified as a pressure fitting and require the CRN when installed in pressure vessels over 15 psi in Canada.

"By registering for and receiving a CRN, MTS can now provide a liquid-level transmitter in pressure vessel applications in all Canadian jurisdictions, expanding the product offering available to our Canadian customers," said Lee Aiken, level product marketing manager, MTS. "In the past we have focused more on petroleum storage tanks that operate at ambient pressure and do not require a CRN, but with our new approval we will further pursue process applications and pressurized storage tanks such as LPG."

Level Plus transmitters feature 3-in-1 sensing of the product level, interface level, and temperature from one process opening, as well as high accuracy and repeatability.

One key advantage of using the models MR and MG transmitters in pressurized vessels is the ability to service the level transmitter in the field without having to take the tank out of service. All of the electronics parts can be removed and replaced without having to remove the transmitter or depressurize the tank. This feature saves customers time and money.

The model MG digital transmitter satisfies the demand for a digital communication interface in the liquid-level marketplace for vessels from 508mm (20 in.) to 18,288mm (720 in.). Outputs include Modbus, DDA (proprietary ASCII protocol), and Foundation Fieldbus. Designed for inventory control, the model MG is accurate to at least 1/16th of an inch and can also provide volume measurement from a 100-point strap
table that the user loads into the transmitter.

The model MR analog transmitter offers unsurpassed flexibility to meet most process application conditions ranging from 508 mm (20 in) to 12,192 mm (480 in). Up to two 4 to 20mA loops are available for analog indication of level, interface, and/or temperature and HART® Communication allows the MR sensor to indicate and display all three measurement variables simultaneously.
