MPEG-4 AVC Encoder transmits in 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 formats.

Press Release Summary:

Designed for real-time, broadcast-quality contribution content, Model IP-9500 4.0 enables simultaneous transmission of HD signals using 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. Unit integrates process for maintaining non-degraded 4:2:0 chroma resolution to preserve picture quality through entire communications link. With DVB-S and DVB-S2 modulation capabilities, encoder eliminates need for separate modulators when broadcasting via satellite.

Fujitsu Releases Industry's First MPEG-4 Encoder to Simultaneously Transmit HD Signals Using 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 Chroma Subsampling

IP-9500 4.0 also Features Unique Process for Maintaining Non-Degraded 4:2:0 Resolution; New Enhancements Facilitate Efficient, Cost-Effective HD Broadcasting over Existing Infrastructures

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 30 /- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products and broadcast solutions, today announced the IP-9500 4.0, the newest version of the company's leading MPEG-4 AVC encoder for real-time broadcast quality contribution content. The Fujitsu IP-9500 4.0 is the industry's first encoding solution to enable the simultaneous transmission of high-definition (HD) signals using 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 chroma subsampling, allowing broadcasters to efficiently and cost-effectively utilize either format based on their existing infrastructures. The IP-9500 4.0 also integrates a cutting-edge process for maintaining non-degraded 4:2:0 chroma resolution to preserve picture quality throughout the entire communications link. Fujitsu will demonstrate these and other new features of the IP-9500 4.0 during the 2009 NAB Show (booth SU10921), April 20-23, 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.

"The ability to simultaneously encode and transmit HD signals in both 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 format is a tremendous breakthrough, and I expect that this and other enhancements included in the Fujitsu IP-9500 4.0 encoder will be well received across the industry," said Michelle Abraham, principal analyst at In-Stat's converging markets and technologies group. "Traditionally, signals would have to be sent twice -- once using 4:2:0 and once using 4:2:2 -- since hardware capabilities vary, even within a single broadcaster's environment. The Fujitsu IP-9500 4.0 eliminates this costly, inefficient process, and together with the non-degraded 4:2:0 resolution functionality, delivers one of the most advanced, innovative broadcasting solutions available today."

The Fujitsu IP-9500 is the industry's leading AVC/H.264 encoding solution for real-time broadcast quality contribution content. The IP-9500's exceptional picture quality at low bit rates and low-latency enables HD satellite news gathering (SNG) and live events transmission using existing broadcast satellite infrastructure. In addition to the simultaneous 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 transmission and the non-degraded 4:2:0 chroma resolution functionality, the IP-9500 4.0 features DVB-S and DVB-S2 modulation capabilities, eliminating the need for separate modulators when broadcasting via satellite. Other enhancements include advanced MPEG-4 AVC encoding for real-time DVB and IP transmission of HD/SD media at lowest possible bit rate for any given video sequence, high performance H.264 compression algorithms which reduce bitrate and bandwidth requirement by more than 50 percent compared to MPEG-2 systems, and a full-duplex VoIP intercom to provide interactive communications between encoder and decoder locations.

"The Fujitsu technology innovation and ability to bring cutting-edge solutions to market is one of our key competitive advantages, and it is one reason why broadcasting organizations across the world continue to implement the IP-9500," said Vic Herring, senior director, video solutions group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "The IP-9500's ability to transmit 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 signals simultaneously yields measureable benefits to our customers by reducing cost and bolstering efficiency while maintaining superior picture quality and low latencies."
