MPC Meets Future European Fire Safety Standard

The modular MPC plug connector from Multi-Contact meets the requirements of the future European fire safety standard CEN/TS 45545-2:2012 for hazard level R23 HL2 when used outdoors.

The different fire safety requirements for rail vehicles that have applied to date for the individual European nations will in future be replaced by a single European standard CEN/TS 45545- 2:2012. It defines fire safety requirements for materials and components for rail vehicles of different hazard levels (HL) in accordance with CEN/TS 45545-1:2012. For each hazard level, there are special testing methods, test conditions and requirements for fire behaviour. The MPC meets the requirements of this new standard for hazard level R23 HL2 when used outdoors.

The MPC was specifically developed for use in the harsh environment of rail applications. It is used for power transmission in the electrical drive train of rail vehicles; among other things for contacts of transformers, traction motors, converters and batteries, as well as power connections between rail cars. With rated values of 3600 V and up to 700 A, it is also suitable for many other industrial high-current and high-voltage applications. This robust plug connector, with protection class IP66/IP67 and IP69K when connected, is among other things also tested for vibration and shock in compliance with EN 61373 as well as corrosion-resistant (240 hour salt mist test) according to EN 60068-2-11.
