Mouser Electronics Now Stocking World's Smallest Single-Chip Ethernet MCU

Microchip Technology's PIC18F97J60 Family of 8-bit Microcontrollers with Integrated Ethernet Peripherals Available through Mouser Electronics.

Mansfield, Texas, USA - March 26, 2007 - Mouser Electronics, Inc., the only distributor to release a new catalog every 90 days, today announced it is stocking the world's smallest 8-bit microcontrollers with integrated IEEE 802.3-compliant Ethernet communications peripherals from Microchip Technology [NASDAQ: MCHP], a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors. The PIC18F97J60 family has an on-chip Media Access Controller (MAC) as well as a Physical Layer Device (PHY) and is optimized for embedded applications. Integrating a 10BASE-T Ethernet controller onto a 10 MIPS PIC18 microcontroller with up to 128 Kbytes of Flash program memory, provides embedded systems designers with a single-chip remote-communication solution for a wide range of applications.

Designers now have one of the most cost-effective, easy to use Ethernet solutions in network connectivity. Microchip's PIC18 high-end 8-bit microcontroller has a complete Ethernet controller, includes MAC, PHY and transmit/receive RAM buffer, and is available in 64- to 100-pin packages. The company also offers a free TCP/IP software stack to reduce development time.

According to Mitch Obolsky, Microchip vice president, Advanced Microcontroller Architecture Division, the need to access embedded applications remotely using Ethernet can be fully realized through the selection of the PIC18F97J60 family. Combined with Microchip's free TCP/IP stack, the introduction of the high-performance PIC18F97J60 family enables microcontroller-based applications to be cost-effectively monitored or controlled from a remote location.

"Mouser is a key factor in our new product introduction efforts through distribution," Obolsky said. "They not only excel at the quick introduction of Microchip's new products, but Mouser also reaches a unique customer base that broadens our exposure to the marketplace."

"One of Mouser's core competencies is to rapidly stock and market new products for our design engineering customers," said Mike Scott, Mouser's Vice President of Active and Passive Components, "and Microchip's continuous release of new products like the PIC18F97J60 family, allows us to create added value for the engineer's new product designs."

Key features for all nine members of the PIC18F97J60 8-bit microcontroller family include seamless migration, IEEE 802.3 compliance, dedicated 8Kbytes Ethernet buffer, 128Kbytes of Flash, and 4Kbytes SRAM.

Any embedded application that requires Ethernet connectivity for communication or monitoring can take advantage of Microchip's nine-member PIC18F97J60 microcontroller family. Specific application examples include industrial automation (industrial controls, power-supply monitoring, network/server monitoring, environmental monitoring); building automation (fire & safety, access control, security panels, lighting control, VoIP intercom); commercial control (kitchen appliances, drink dispensers, hotel mini-bars, POS terminals); home control (security and networked appliances).
