Emerson Motor Technologies Introduces Motor Lines 100 Percent Compliant with NEMA Premium(TM) Efficiency Levels

Emerson boasts total compliance in totally enclosed fan cooled and open dripproof lines

St. Louis, Mo., Aug. 22, 2002 - Emerson Motor Technologies offers an extensive line of U.S. Motors brand totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) and open dripproof (ODP) motors that comply 100 percent with the new National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) premium efficiency levels (NEMA Premium(TM)).

NEMA Premium is a registered trademark of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association and may only be used on products covered by a memorandum of understanding between the manufacturer and NEMA. The new criteria were established in August 2001 under the Premium-Efficiency Motors Initiative, spearheaded by NEMA and the Consortium for Energy Efficiency. Emerson, a member of NEMA, participated in the establishment of the NEMA Premium criteria.

"Few motor manufacturers can make a claim of total compliance to NEMA Premium efficiency levels, but we can, and we have the technology and research to back it up," said Rob Boteler, marketing director. "Emerson plans to continue year after year to meet these levels, and strive to maintain its leadership role in developing energy efficient solutions for our customers."

The most comprehensive in the industry, NEMA Premium follows MG-1 standards for temperature, torque, inrush current, power factor and overall design. These strict standards were used in the design and construction of Emerson's general purpose, three phase ODP motors (1-250 HP) and its general purpose, three phase TEFC motors (1-200 HP) including:
o Unimount®
o Hostile Duty®
o Corro-Duty
o 841 PLUS®

TEFC and ODP motors in the 200-500 HP range that are also compliant with NEMA Premium levels are available upon customer request.

Each of Emerson Motor Technologies' NEMA Premium motors is inverter ready and resistant to power quality problems. They also feature the company's unique ALLGUARD® motor quality system. Emerson's NEMA Premium products can be installed without the addition of new starters or wiring to an existing system.

Premium efficiency motors are 1-4 percent more efficient than motors meeting federal minimum efficiency standards. Because many motors operate 40-80 hours per week (or more), even small increases in efficiency can yield huge energy savings.
