CONDUCTIX / Insul-8 Announces Its New Motorized Festoon Trolley For Port Container Cranes

The New Motorized Festoon Trolley will Adapt to Existing Crane Beams , Reduce System Maintenance Costs, and Optimize Cable Life

OMAHA, NE, USA - 19 October, 2006 - Conductix will unveil a new motorized festoon trolley for heavy-duty cable festoon systems at TOC2006 Americas (Nov. 28-30). The new product provides port crane maintenance managers with the option to optimize cable life by adding motorized trolleys to an existing "passive" system or to a new system.
The product release comes at a time when port operators are demanding ever increasing container crane productivity, while also needing to reduce maintenance costs and crane downtime. Today's cranes must lift heavier loads, operate at higher speeds, and achieve greater acceleration. This increases the demands on crane components, including the large cable package and festoon system. These large cable packages are very costly and the cost is recurrent if cables need to be frequently replaced. Cable management systems must be designed to optimize cable life.

"Motorized festoon trolleys are not new on the market" says Mike Bjornstad, Festoon Product Manager at Conductix. "These types of trolleys operate at many ports around the world. But port operators will appreciate the additional flexibility of the Conductix Motorized Trolley. It can adapt to most any size and type of running beam. The drive system suspension is spring-loaded, which allows the trolley to operate over uneven surfaces and follow less-than-perfectly aligned beams. Our trolley is propelled by a direct-drive gearbox, which reduces routine maintenance, such as the need to replace worn drive belts. The small amount of routine maintenance needed is very straightforward, resulting in minimal down time, cost savings, and optimum operation."

This product is a significant addition to the company's already well established line of heavy-duty cable festoon systems. The Conductix line includes a wide variety of running gear options to fit most beam sizes and types (Metric and American), single-tier and double-tier saddle arrangements, and assorted system accessories (shock cords, tow cables, cable organizers, and protective sleeves).
