Newport Announces the New TRA Actuator Product Series
Irvine, CA - Feb. 23, 2009 - Newport Corporation, a worldwide leader in lasers and photonics solutions, introduces the TRA Actuator Series, the newest line in the company's extensive range of precision positioning devices. The TRA provides reliable, motorized motion in a compact, lightweight package. Developed to replace micrometer drives in manual stages, the TRA delivers superior performance at an exceptional price. The space-saving design makes the TRA actuator ideal for a wide range of motion applications in research, industrial and health sciences.
The TRA comes in 6mm, 12.5mm and 25mm travel ranges. Each model is available in DC or stepper motor and a vacuum-compatible, stepper motor version. TRA actuators are small (15mm or 25mm) yet have a 6kg load capacity. Other features include sub-micron, minimal incremental motion and micron level repeatability and an integrated optical switch, for reliable, repeatable home positioning.
For added versatility, the TRAs are compatible with all of Newport's popular motion controllers, including the NewStep single-axis, stepper motor controller to the more sophisticated, high performance XPS universal controller. They are also compatible with Newport's advanced Ultima(r) and Suprema(r) mirror mounts, the ULTRAlign(tm) linear stages, and various rotations and tip/tilt stages and goniometers.

Each TRA is tested to ensure that it meets or exceeds the published specifications and an individual test report is included in each unit. Data from this report can be used in tandem with the error compensation commands of Newport controllers to further enhance the performance of the actuator.
