Allen-Bradley® ArmorStart(TM) Distributed Motor Controller Now Available With PowerFlex® Drive Technology



Sensorless vector control greatly expands application possibilities with high-performance speed and torque regulation

MILWAUKEE, April 15, 2004 - A new line of Allen-Bradley® ArmorStart(TM) distributed motor controllers from Rockwell Automation incorporates an Allen-Bradley PowerFlex® sensorless vector drive, giving OEMs and system-level users precise speed and torque control to meet a wide range of applications. Designed for applications requiring tight speed control such as material handling, diverters, sorters, extruders, winders, bottling lines, and pumps, the ArmorStart controllers are ideally suited for On-Machine(TM) solutions as they require no additional enclosures and feature a modular, plug-and-play design for quick and reliable installation.

The cost-saving On-Machine design of the ArmorStart controller, combined with its ability to tightly control motor speed and torque while maintaining maximum throughput, greatly expands application possibilities. In addition, its pre-tested, quick-connect wiring assembly allows users to efficiently isolate problems and replace a starter or I/O locally rather than sorting through a complex panel.

Equipped with a robust IP67/NEMA Type 4 enclosure, ArmorStart provides reliable operation in environmentally demanding conditions, including wash-down environments. Additional flexibility is provided by four inputs and two outputs and an optional keypad for local start/stop control at the motor. The device can be used with motors ranging from .5 to 5 horsepower (.4 to 4.0 kW) @ 50/60 Hz for non-reversing, and reversing applications with a voltage range from 200 to 460 VAC. ArmorStart can accept control voltages of 24 VDC, 120 VAC or 240 VAC. Factory-installed options include an HOA keypad with jog function, dynamic brake contactor, EMI filter, source brake contactor, output connector and shielded motor cable.
