Motor Controller reduces mechanical damage to equipment.

Press Release Summary:

Medium Voltage SMC-Flex soft starter limits motor starting torque, thus reducing damage to belts, gears, and other machinery. It minimizes high in-rush current to prevent process shutdowns that can occur during power system brownouts. Protection and diagnostic features include electronic motor overload protection, stall detection, jam detection, ground fault protection, thermistor input, warnings, and configurable auxiliary contacts. Power ratings are 200/400/600 A from 2,400-6,900 V.

Rockwell Automation Introduces the Next Generation of Medium Voltage Smart Motor Controllers

Allen-Bradley medium voltage SMC-Flex delivers improved control and protection, while reducing downtime and operating costs.

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, March 22, 2004 - Continuing the legacy of Allen-Bradley Smart Motor Controllers (SMC), complete automation leader Rockwell Automation introduces the medium voltage (MV) SMC-Flex soft starter. The MV SMC-Flex provides improved control for the toughest applications, contributing to equipment protection and cost reduction.

The MV SMC-Flex limits motor starting torque, helping save costs by reducing mechanical damage to belts, gears and other machinery. The SMC-Flex also helps businesses meet power company restrictions by reducing high inrush currents when starting MV motors. Minimizing inrush current also helps prevent process shutdowns that can occur during power system brownouts.

New MV SMC-Flex control features, including closed-loop current regulation and tachometer feedback, improve performance in applications such as pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors and blowers.

Protection and diagnostic features include electronic motor overload protection, stall detection, jam detection, ground fault protection, thermistor input, diagnostics and warnings, monitoring and configurable auxiliary contacts.

The MV SMC-Flex uses the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 150 SMC-Flex control module, which has numerous control modes for flexible application. Use of the same control module for MV applications minimizes user training and reduces spare parts costs. MV SMC-Flex power ratings are 200/400/600 amps from 2,400 to 6,900 volts.
