Square D® Motorpact Boasts More Operations And Fewer Parts, Needs Little Upkeep

Available worldwide, new medium voltage motor controller redefines reliability standard

PALATINE, Ill. - Oct. 16, 2002 - A new medium-voltage motor controller features fewer parts, and is capable of 5,000 operations without maintenance. The SQUARE D® MOTORPACT motor controller provides plant engineers and consultants with greater reliability, longer equipment life and increased uptime. Because it fulfills ANSI, CUL, IEC, NEMA and UL standards, it can be used in plants located anywhere in the world.

Compared to other medium voltage motor controllers, the MOTORPACT motor controller reduces installation, maintenance and life cycle costs, and requires less floor space. Its compact footprint - almost one foot narrower than the closest competitor - makes it ideal for retrofit applications as well as new construction.

"The MOTORPACT motor controller stands out based on its innovative design and industry-first features," said Tony Narusevicius, SQUARE D product manager. "Its radically reduced number of parts results in lowered maintenance, enhanced equipment performance and a more consistent overall product in terms of fit, finish and reliability."

Reliability
The new motor controller's optional solid-state soft start voltage ramping helps increase uptime. With its main bus bar mounted directly onto the isolation switch, the MOTORPACT motor controller has fewer bolted connections - with no riser bus bar - and fewer parts that require maintenance, compared to other motor controllers. Its fewer parts utilizing switch-cradle moldings and castings directly enhance reliability, as does rugged 11-gauge construction.

The MOTORPACT motor controller's ability to execute 5,000 operations without maintenance more than doubles the current industry standard.

Protection Focus
The MOTORPACT motor controller provides protection based on compartmentalized construction that includes an integral cable grounding switch and optional built-in arc resistance. Compartmentalized construction aids in the containment of faults. The enclosed isolation switch provides a physical barrier between the busbar and load compartments, preventing access until isolation switch is opened and grounded. No other medium voltage motor controller provides these protection enhancements.

Ease of UseThe new motor controller features infrared scanning ports for scanning bus bar connections and cable terminations. The ports allow a maintenance technician to infrared scan internal bus bar connections without opening compartment doors or covers, and locate and troubleshoot heating problems caused by loose connections.

When combined with power management and integrated distributions systems, and supported by a maintenance contract from SQUARE D Services, the new motor controller helps provide a total system solution that is unmatched in the industry.
