Motor Controller includes soft-start protection.

Press Release Summary:

Modular SMC-Flex(TM) is available in current ranges from 108-480 A, and voltage ranges from 200-600 Vac. Built-in line-monitoring capabilities allow for monitoring of 3-phase voltage, current, kilowatts, and system power factor. Bypass automatically closes when motor reaches nominal speed, resulting in cooler-running component. In addition to controlling motor starting torque, SMC-Flex prevents power system disturbances associated with full voltage starting methods.

Discover a New Dimension in Motor Control

MILWAUKEE, Dec. 12, 2002 - Complete Automation® leader Rockwell Automation introduces the newest member of the Smart Motor Controller family, SMC-Flex(TM). The SMC-Flex softstarter provides integrated features and technology previously unavailable in a softstarter. The flexibility and capabilities of the SMC-Flex make it ideal for virtually any application. The SMC-Flex offers a variety of motor starting and stopping methods to provide solutions for a wide range of applications. The SMC-Flex takes softstarting to a new dimension by reducing the product size and the total cost to customers.

The space-saving footprint of the SMC-Flex has a 50% size reduction over the traditional design. This more efficient modular design reduces heat losses by 80%. The bypass automatically closes when the motor reaches its nominal speed, resulting in a cooler-running component and reduction in enclosure size. The SMC-Flex is ideally suited for applications where motor starting torque needs to be controlled (reduced) to prevent equipment damage and costly downtime. Additionally, the SMC-Flex reduces motor starting currents and voltages to prevent power system disturbances associated with full voltage starting methods.

The same high-grade quality and functionality found in the original SMC products exist today in the SMC-Flex. The SMC-Flex is available in current ranges from 108-480 amperes, and voltage ranges from 200-600 Volts AC. The built-in motor protection has multiple overload classes as standard to reduce the number of devices required to meet demanding application requirements. Built-in line monitoring capabilities allow for monitoring of three phase voltage, current, kilowatts and system power factor. This takes the mystery out of the motors operation. The advanced motor and controller diagnostics available increase system performance and minimize downtime. The functionality and application capabilities of the SMC-Flex are unmatched in the industry.
