NSK's New Astro-E 800 Brushless Motor and Spindle Reaches Speeds of 80,000 rpm
Schaumburg, IL (June 20, 2002) - New to NSK America Inc.'s Astro-E Series, the E 800 Brushless Motor and Spindle operates at speeds from 20,000 - 80,000 rpm. NSK offers a choice of two spindles, the NR-3080 and the NRA-5080, with the system.
The NR-3080 spindle features a ceramic bearing suitable for standard machining. The lubrication-free NRA-5080 spindle is designed with an air bearing for light-duty machining.
Through the use of a brushless DC motor, the Astro-E 800 (30mm OD) achieves power levels of up to 250W. Brushless construction not only results in higher power, but in increased durability, reliability and uptime. The absence of a carbon brush in the motor minimizes the Astro-E 800 motor wear and increases its service life.
An air cooling system, controlled by a small volume of air (0.35 CFM), prevents heat generation of the motor and further promotes continuous use.
The Astro-E 800 is designed to accommodate various attachments for use with applications on special-purpose machines, NC lathes, robots and other machines.
