Yaskawa's SMC-4000 Multi-Axis Ethernet Motion Controller Increases Connectivity Possibilities

Waukegan, Ill, October 7, 2004 -- Yaskawa Electric announces another new product to heighten the performance of the servo family, the SMC-4000 multi-axis Ethernet motion controller. The SMC-4000 complements Yaskawa's Servo Amplifier series and the "7" series variable speed drives. Plug-and-play cables provide a quick and easy amplifier connection while the standard Ethernet feature provides seamless communication to the Yaskawa inverter family with the Modbus TCP/IP protocol. This same feature enables the addition of third party I/O devices. The SMC-4000 provides several modes of operation, including point-to-point positioning, multi axis interpolation, and following of external devices via gear ratio or cam profile. Utilize the high performance of the SMC-4000 to the fullest extent with advanced tuning techniques such as notch and band pass filtering.

Communication with other devices is limitless with the standard Ethernet connection. Programs and data can be downloaded, and any information within the controller can be monitored from anywhere in the world over the Internet. The SMC-4000 functions equally well with Yaskawa's rotary, linear, and direct drive motors.

The programming style is made simple. A comprehensive, two-character command set provides the user with over 150 powerful tools for programming in a BASIC environment, complete with subroutines and the IF, ELSE, ENDIF structure. Yaskawa provides an integrated development environment called "YTerm" for programming, debugging, and monitoring all SMC applications.

Yaskawa, with headquarters in Waukegan, Illinois, is a leading manufacturer of high-performance variable speed AC drives, servos, CNCs, machine controllers, and robots.
